* 15 years since 'X'- no legislation , which was recommended by the Judge
at the time.
*No national sex education programme implemented.
* The Rotunda Rape unit has been taking cases from the North-west due to weekend
closures.(Mary Harney had not funded two forensic nurses for quite some time)
* No protections/advice/counselling for refugee women provided anywhere in the
Dept of Justice web-site.
*criminalising boys for early sexual activity.
*criminalising girls for any sexual activity except full penetrative sex.
* dropping the solicitation laws from the 2006 bill.
*Putting the rape victim back on the stand.
* not providing in one of the wealthiest economies in the world, a separate
seating area outside the courts for victims of rape away from alleged perpetrators.
The amendment to the constitution will reverse some of the harm done in June 2006,
but it does not address the issues of concern listed above which sucessive
governments have ignored. it also foists hastily written legislation and
amendment on a well-pissed off electorate.

The Unmanageables , a group of activist women are calling a peaceful
non-partisan one hour protest on Thursday the 8th March, International
Women's Day- from 8am-9am In Ranelagh.
We want to set off women's day with a brief demo and banner drop around
the Issue of Injustice, Inequality and Law Deform.
To celebrate Women's Day in all our diversity and to raise awareness
of inequality in War, deportation and In Peace for women. To raise
awreness of the unfairness of the recent (2006) sex offences laws
to both young boys and girls.
Meeting at the Old Triangle in Ranelagh [Luas, 44,48,11 buses]
Kids are always welcome.
Badges, buttons are welcome and leaflets too.
There will be a 'Free Women' stall - where passers-by are getting gifts
of handmade dolls in ethnic dress.
All groups with an interest in the areas of Justice and Equality are
welcome to kick off Women's Day with us.
Tomorrow is International Women's Day, where we protest and celebrate women's
contribution to political movements. Globally there have been many repressions and
there are few of us willing to stand in solidarity and raise awareness of the political
effect of decision-making based in the current democratic system which is
grossly gender-embalanced- a fact highlighted by the introduction of flawed and
unworkable legislation around the issue of child protection and women's rights.
Since last international women's day, we have witnessed brutal oppressions
and continued war.
It is the result of the failure of policy . It is the result of galloping globalisation,
obvious in :- Eco Struggle, Poverty, Education and Repression In Ireland.
We are having a brief banner-drop to kick off women's day.
we wll stand in solidarity with some of the women victims of globalisation
and remember the eco and human rights campaigners of:
Oaxaca.
Guatemala.
Kosovo.
Iraq.
Afghanistan.
Lebanon.
The Phillipines.
(and their kids and families)
We are very aware that media presentation of women's issues often focus on
women as object or victim.
The headlines of mainstream media are glutted with images of policy makers
in suits, it gets tedious.
Tomorrow is a day of solidarity and remembrance, we do not negate the effects
of globalised policy on the women in this country and of their communities
and will also take a moment in solidarity with:
Rossport.
Tara.
Victims of abuse
Deportees.
Thus a short peaceful and symbolic protest.
@ 8.00-9.00am- The Triangle Ranelagh.
