Dublin IPSC Picket of Atlantic Homecare Sandyford

category dublin | consumer issues | news report author Saturday March 03, 2007 20:10author by Johnny H - IPSC Report this post to the editors

On Saturday the 3rd of March, IPSC Activists and members of the Palestinian community joined together to picket the Atlantic Homecare store in Sandyford as part of our continued campaign to pressure Atlantic Homecare to remove Israeli "Keter" products from their stores.
Leafleting!
Leafleting!

The third week of Atlantic Homecare pickets progressed well today with a good turnout of activists from the Dublin IPSC branch and the Palestinian community. We handed out leaflets urging customers to boycott the Israeli goods in Atlantic Homecare such as "Keter" garden and kitchenware products. The majority of customers were very supportive of our campaign and several turned their cars away rather than break our picket line. Many customers decided to enter the store to complain directly to the management about the presence of Israeli goods in Atlantic Homecare and asked them to heed the international call for a boycott of Israel until it respects international law and basic human rights for the Palestinian people.

The police presence at today's event was noticably less than in previous weeks and we maintained our picket for over two hours in the cold spring weather and windy environment of Sandyford industrial estate. Spirits were high as we ended today's picket and the IPSC Dublin branch intends to return to the Sandyford Atlantic Homecare store in two weeks time to continue our boycott campaign.

Have you lot nothing better to do than to stand around boycotting anything you dont like ?

When are you going to do something about Darfur or Kashmir ?

Remember Pakistan was set up in 1947 as an Islamic State one year before Israel
established itself as a Democratic State in 1948 - how many democratic elections
and governments have there been in Pakistan and how many Junta takeovers

What are you going to boycott of Pakistani origin because its establishment caused
millions of deaths and 1000s of millions of refugees ?

While they are comnplaining about Israel (and getting some fresh air) you are stuck complaining about them complaining about Israel. Why don't you get out and organise a protest against the Pakistani govt? No one is stopping you.

Or you could organise a counter demonstration in Sandyford if you want. But don't spend your life muttering about what others are doing, do something yourself!

Found out recently that the Tesco Meatless Burgers or Vegiburgers as they used to be labelled (sold in green boxes in freezer compartment of Tesco) are made in Apartheid Israel.

John, Pakistan was not "set up in 1947 as an Islamic State", India was partitioned following plebiscite and the end of British rule - a plebiscite that has still not been fully enacted, leaving predominantly muslim Kashmir outside West Pakistan. A string of countries from Aden to Singapore were likewise permitted to enact their own form of government, many of which are religious. It is as idiotic as saying "Ireland was set up as an Apartheid Catholic State 24 years before Israel".
