Friday February 16, 2007 17:15 by TD - Shell to Sea
"Breaking" and entry with pristine intent Despite some radio reports and perhaps other media ... there was no damage to property, criminal or otherwise during our occupation of the site - at the peril of losing serious street cred, we were as impeccable as Girl Guides and Boy Scouts.

On our way out of the refinery - message delivered loud and clear
Decanting out the front gates
Venceremos !
What we saw inside
A tonic for the troops before the reclaimation work

Great work today. Couldn't make it myself unfortunately. Great to see non-violent direct action back on track in Rossport after the stupidity of cancelling the Nov mobilisation. Particularly important coming on the back of the decision by the very same person who blackmailed the campaign into cancelling the protest to run for elected office.
If this campaign is to be won we need to continually step it up until it reaches a point that the government can't ignore.
The only question I have is when is the next Day of Support?
I agree with davitt when he says (Particularly important coming on the back of the decision by the very same person who blackmailed the campaign into cancelling the protest to run for elected office.)
our leader seems to have lost his nerve (anyone see him this morning?)
We need someone who is local and brave, and will not give in to pressure from the state/pigs.
he has lost my support
6 minute video from today.
If you are talking about Mark Garvan, I believe you are mistaken. Mark Garvan has done fantastic work for this campaign.
Well done all! I would love to be there - hoping to get to Erris soon if I'm spared !
I think it was Jerry Cowley (who may have to keep his 'respectable' face on; that's how it goes in politics alas) that was being criticised in the foregoing comments & not Mark Garavan.
Keep on keeping on there!
It could be Cowley or Garavan. They're cut from the same cloth. Also neither are actually local but both are constantly critical of 'outsiders'. It is mostly from their comments that the media decided there was a conflict between locals and nonlocals. Garavan's comments yesterday weren't exactly helpful either.
Garda SL 286 masks up his face - is he ashamed to be there or does he have something to hide?

I spent the day snapping away yesterday, and I only realised when we were out the front gate that I hadn't loaded the damn film properly.
I'm gutted.
At thankfully there are loads of great pics up here, can't wait for some videos to start apearing!
Here's some pictures I took during the day.
Assembling for the march
Support from Clare
Welcome To Pigtopia!
Save Us!
End the Occupation.
Here's some more shots of the day's fun.

..as Tirnagcasta bring the noise!
Mmmmm.... tempting!
The end of the march observed from a distance
Here's another batch of 'em.
Treason - Bertie Pumps For Shell (or does he Suck?)
Cork-made S2S banner at protest. Isn't it lovely?
Some of the enemy's minions having a look at us. Maybe they'll be fined by Shell for this?
Shell's uniformed minions at work. Note the slavish concentration.
Vincent McGrath speaking.
Some more photos of the day.
It's an ugly, ugly fence but we can beat rhythms of defiance on it!
Rhythms of Resistance - RSC collective.
Trespass is such a lovely word.
John Monaghan pointing out some features once we're all in.
Staying together, the intrepid group head into Shell's lair.
Pictures from inside the most unwanted construction site in Mayo or anywhere else in Ireland for that matter.
Is this how pipeline sections should be stored? Note the rust and mould on these.
Here's a pipe section uncapped at both ends. That's how we found it. Makes you worry about Shell's attention to safety matters.
First encounter with workers. They continued to work on site for 15 minutes after they first spotted us.
Heading as a group to the centre of the current site works.
John pointing out site features, including the Axonics water treatment which has never worked either properly or well.
..and we saw with our own eyes the rape of the land and the beginnings of a great despoilation. May it be stopped before more harm gets done.
This mask unmasks the real face of Shell.
Far from being intimidated, the workers on site are curious, and taking photos themselves.
Then the Guards arrive.
More Guards make themselves visible. Not ones for a low profile, the Guards.
We start to leave the site, together and with the cops well back.
..and such days and acts will keep us going for the long, long haul.
The cops follow us out at a respectful distance. The baton party has been postponed for another day, perhaps.
Maura, a veteran direct actor herself, looks pleased.
Having shut down the site for over an hour, a feeling of triumph entered us as we left, linked-armed and defiant.
Outside, our S2S friends and comrades await our return in a din of excitement.
And, just outside the gates, a raucous triumphant reunion!
..we remain aware that this struggle has years ahead of it. This has been only the latest in a continuing series of direct actions here carried out by local and national campaigners. To achieve meaningful change, we must risk much, even perhaps our bodies and lives. To think that change can come from petitioning those complicit in the misery and oppression you feel has been one of the chief tools the few use to make slaves of the many, and a delusion best dispelled for the sake of the hope that future generations (and ourselves too!) will live in a better world. Shell to Sea! In a lead-lined coffin!
Having waited stunned and trumped for several minutes, the cops then roughly push us off the road. I suppose it keeps the so-and-sos happy.
The only victim of violence on the day, with his broken wrist in a sling.
Scataí Muice, mar a deireann na pobail áitiúla.
Soup and sandwiches, tea and coffee afterwards at Healy's in Glenamoy.
We many. We happy many. Some will think themselves accursed not to have been here. Yeah, right!
On the way home we encountered Eamon O Cuiv getting in some very, very early electioneering on an audiance of primary kids in a small school very close to the camp.
Taking our rent a mob duties seriously we decamped and got the protest going again. Have protest will travel!
(By the way in answer to a comment some where there are 2 coach companies up in Eris: Mc graths and Corduffs up there and they work for both Shell and ourselves or any one that gives them money (as far as I know???)
- That said the Mc Graths bus driver was most sound on the Dublin bus - beir bua!)
krossie
robo sony steady-came cop was also on hand!
i could be wrong but i don't think mcgrath's work for shell.
Actually now that I think of it we've always got Mc Graths plus the cops always seem to be in Corduff coaches - so you caould be right
kp
For the record, wish to advise that, as per title of post, McGrath's Transport DO NOT work for Shell.
The only reason Corduffs have got any work from Shell is because they happen to have the same surname as Willie - it was a calculated and deliberate move by Shell to create the confusion evident in some posts.
For the information of readers two Corduff buses go on site each morning, usually with a handful of people on board each one; then one of those buses comes out to do a school run; typical of Shell skullduggery - if blocked going in, 'workers' denied the right to work on a site which is part of a project without full permissions; if blocked coming out, children denied the right of transport to school.
Such a clever strategy think the Shell s****!
