Shell to Sea banner display at Patrick's Bridge, Cork

To remember 100 years of corporate Hell

In commemoration of 100 years of Shell Oil's greed, theft and destruction of communities worldwide, the Cork branch of Shell to Sea unveiled its latest agitprop creation in the heart of Cork city, a 30ft banner saying 'Shell 100 years..Pollution.Corruption and Murder' complete with enemy logo. Shell may be proud of their record profits announced today, but we took it on ourselves to remind the citizens of Cork of how those billions were made, and at whose expense.

we got to the bridge at 5pm and immediately unfurled our latest in a growing line of fine banners. Many thanks are due to the agitprop subgroup that made our pride and joy. Its size and eyecatching slogan definitely caught the attention of the city's passers-by, and 400 leaflets were quickly distributed in the two hours that we were there. The passing traffic of rush hour were supportive too, with a steady chorus of beeps during the two hours. The local Gardai paid us no attention, as if Erris were a faraway country about which Guards know nothing.
This was a visual display of solidarity from us in Cork to our friends in fence-line communities in Co. Mayo and around the world which will hopefully support their morale in their struggle against Shell, one of the most vicious corporate beasts in capitalism's jungle.
