Comedy, music and straight-talking Anti-War Ireland is holding a fundraising concert in the Laughter Lounge on Eden Quay, Dublin, on Sunday 26th November. All monies raised will go towards the continuing campaign to demilitarise Shannon airport. The gig/concert is under the title 'Departure Lounge' (spot the heavy hint!). |

An open Dublin organising meeting of Anti-War Ireland will be held a few days after this fundraising concert, and all those interested in getting involved are welcome to come along. It's at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 29th November, in the Teachers Club on Parnell Square.
Meetings are open, democratic, non-hierarchical. Come along and get involved in the campaign to demilitarise Shannon airport!
Why not buy your ticket for this gig now, online, just to be sure -- and even if you can't make it for what promises to be an amazing evening, your money will go to a good cause. Book at www.ctb.ie or the link below.
Very good mix listed for the gig. Well done to whoever assembled this crew and well done to all those who agreed to play/act/joke for the benefit of the Shannon demilitarisation campaign.
I reckon if you went out and canvassed Irish musicians & comedians & artistes you'd find that most are staunchly opposed to what's happening at Shannon airport. Great to see some of them put themselves out and give their time and skills over to highlighting the campaign.
Respect.

Excellent gig! McAleer was outstanding - where is that guy these days? He should be on TV more. Very, very funny man. All of the acts were very good. Great night.
McAleer was fantastic, as good as ever, so was Kevin Gildea. Two wonderful dancers as well (not McAleer and Gildea).
Best was Dev MC, dressed as Dev in tophat and morning coat. A bit of bad taste though in one of his lines: Say ooh aahh, Beal na Blath, Say ooh aahh, Beal na mBlath.
I suppose that could be taken as bad taste but I reckon that was the point. Wasn't he the anti-Dev? I thought he was great. Mad as a hatter.
I missed Kevin McAleer because I had to come late, and I'm reliably informed he was brilliant. However, I caught Hazel O'Connor, who was a revelation; some artists just seem to get better and more passionate and energetic with age (I haven't been that mesmerised by a performance since the last time I saw Patti Smith, which is saying a lot).
MC Dev was genius, and the last few music acts were equally engaging.
Thanks to all who gave of their time and absolutely brilliant talents for AWI and the demilitarisation of Shannon Airport. Although this gig was for a 'worthy' cause, I managed to get through the night without once thinking of the worthiness. I never once looked at my watch and thought, this is boring and I'd rather be at home reading a book, but it's a benefit gig and I'm doing my bit by being here (let's be honest, this sometimes happens at benefits). I doubt anyone else did either. That's a testament to the amount of talent that was in the room!
