Toby Young was given his peerage for the wrong reason, says Alexander Norman. He deserved it for creating Lockdown Sceptics in April 2020 ? a lonely refuge from a world taking a new and cruel delight in preventing joy.

category antrim | eu | event notice author Friday November 10, 2006 15:24author by Caitlin - Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign Report this post to the editors

Protest at EU Policy

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign will be holding a mass picket on Saturday 11th November outside the office of the European Union in central Belfast to protest at the continuing massacres of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and at the failure of the EU to suspend the EU-Israeli Association Agreement.
Assemble : outside EU Office (Windsor House), Bedford St. Belfast on Sat. 11 Nov. at 1.30 p.m.

PRESS RELEASE

During Israel's latest onslaught on Gaza and locations in the West Bank more than 80 Palestinians have died in the last seven days. On the night of 8th November in Beit Hanoun Israeli tanks shelled houses while their inhabitants slept. 18 Palestinians, mainly women and children, were killed and over 40 injured. This came a mere 24 hours after a previous Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip which killed 50 Palestinians and injured 200.
In Beit Hanoun, two doctors were killed as ambulances were sent to treat those injured during the invasion. People were left bleeding to death as Palestinians were prevented from reaching hospitals. Dozens of houses have been turned into rubble and the infrastructure and agriculture of Beit Hanoun has been destroyed. At the same time Israel committed more war crimes in Jenin on the West Bank where it murdered five people.

And officers in the Israeli army have promised more Beit Hanouns in the future.

The international community must act to stop this. The European Union must take the basic step of honouring Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement which states the Agreement will be suspended if Israel does not respect 'democratic principles' and human rights in its dealings with the Palestinians.
