The Orange Order & sectarianism in Ireland![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Story and PDF booklet for you to print out and distribute A new PDF booklet for you to download, print out and distribute has just been added to the Struggle site (struggle.ws). It is on sectarianism and the Orange Order. This week the results of the 2001 Life and Times survey in the north of Ireland were released. They confirm that sectarian attitudes are spreading and deepening. In 1999 some 12% of Protestants and 6% of Catholics wanted single religion workplaces. In 2001 these figures have doubled to 21% and 14%. In 1999 29% of Protestants and 21% of Catholics wanted their children to go to separate schools. Now this stands at 37% and 29%. Similar figures show an increase in support for segregated housing and a decrease (to 25% and 33%) of people who believe things are now better then they were in 1991! This booklet looks at the Oranges Orders role in building up sectarianism both historically and today. It also looks at those periods when workers in the north have united against the sectarian divisions and seeks to give an anarchist explanation of why those divisions are deepening today and how they can be overcome. We thrilled at the opportunity of putting republican rabble rousers in their place, by swamping ardoyne with the best of british military might, we even got to use the police dogs, alsations of course, another habit i picked up training with the now disbanded Afrikanears police, shame we didnt get a chance to let the dogs off their leashes, i would have enjoyed watching republican peasant scum run for their lives. have to remember though this aint south africa, but maybe someday soon i'll see our brave butch afrikanears pigs, opps sorry PSNI stomping about Belfast.
