event notice
Monday October 16, 2006 17:50 by Enda - Shell to Sea
There will be a blockade of the Shell Station this Wednesday at 6pm to continue the pressure on Shell and in solidarity with the people of rossport. The last two blockades at Donnybrook have been extremely successful with large turnouts hopefully this one can be bigger. |

Asking your mates in the pub doesn't count- so how can you believe so certainly that the campaign has lost support?
Sorry Sheila to burst your bubble - I am none of the things you accuse me of. Like most of your colleagues, you are too prone to accepting the conspiracy theory. Wake up girl - your campaign has lost the widespread national sympathy that existed last year.
Jack
You are quite simply nothing but a troll. The Shell to Sea objection has certainly been taken aback by this new phase in the government/corporate strategy to regain the initiative. Having lost the arguments they have had to resort to violence, intimidation and lying. But it is beginning to falter already. Allegations of death threats are positively risible. Somebody is desperate to bury the news that Shell are bribing business people in Mayo to shift the substantial weight of public opinion against Shell to Sea. Filthy, dirty tactics. How much do Shell pay you to come on to Indymedia? Or perhaps you're some sycophantic little journo staffer eager to do his masters bidding? Go and babble your ill-informed burble someplace else.
Hate to repeat what others have posted on other sites etc, but the campaign is called "Shell to Sea" after all - so how can you say that the protest has changed from being about the pipeline to being about the refinery? If we can take Shell at their word (debatable), that they intend to modify the route of the pipeline, and also the fact that they stated after their announcement to modify the pipeline route that they were not at that point planning on applying for any new consents for the pipeline, then that would mean that they could alter the route within their current ministerial consents by how much - 1, 2, 5, 20, 30 metres??? That is not enough to address the safety issue re. proximity to dwellings and public roads. The location of the proposed refinery is determining the route of the pipeline, which is why it is important that people express their opposition to the refinery site. Unfortunately the Irish Government is happy to allow project splitting to take place in relation to this development, in violation of EU law, which is allowing Shell and some of the media commentators and people like yourself to suggest that those opposed to the project have moved the goalposts, which is simply not the case.
Tactician - You are very wrong - its not working. In fact I would suggest its back firing. The majority of people that I know have moved on. There was some sympathy for the Rossport 5 but now they see the protest has no coherence and has been hijacked by the extremes. The normal punter sat up and listened last year but now they dont understand what the protest is about and your protests have a feeling that its just a "no to Shell" protest rather than based on health and safety etc etc. First it was the pipeline and now its about the terminal. You just lost the focus and now the audience has gone.
Shell supply 100% of the petrol to Shell service stations. Don't believe the spin about the company not having anything to do with the forecourt business.
Blockading/picketing stations brings the situation in Erris home to people. That's a Shell sign the garage owner is trading under right? That logo has "brand recognition value". The protests reflect the poor view many people take of the company's record and seek to damage the associations of the brand. And you know what? -It's working.
(& if you want to post your registration number here we'll look out for at Donnybrook.)
...are you blocking cars? I hope so because i will travel just to try and enter the garrage and resist your pointless and idiotic protest. Of course, you do realise that the people who now run the Shell petrol stations that you plan to blockade have nothing whatsoever to do with Shell Exploration? Shell sold its interests in their national forecourt business last year.
You really are just ill informed, conspiracy junkies trying to play games with these anal protests
....bit short notice though.
