The Blob has sunk to new depths in its quest to destroy educational freedom. No wonder, says Randall Hardy. It's only the right to withdraw children from the state system that restrains its worst indoctrinating tendencies.

Relaunch Of Porco Dio !

category dublin | arts and media | event notice author Thursday October 12, 2006 17:39author by Porco Dioauthor email porcodiodublin at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Porco Dio present:

Can Kickers (USA)
Lynched
Boneyard Witch
Nakatomi

+ DJ Willie Jones

Kennedy's, Westland Row
Thursday 19 October
Doors 9pm till late, adm €6

Plus Live Visuals !

Porco Dio fortnightly gig and arts night moves to its new home at
Kennedy's, Westland Row, from Thursday 19 October.

Since April 2006 Porco Dio has operated fortnightly in the Lower Deck,
Portobello. Over this time we have had acts from The USA, France,
Czech Republic, The UK, Argentina and New Zealand perform alongside
bands and individuals from all over Ireland. Diverse genres ranging
rom metal to hip-hop, electronica to folk; and even funk and
rockabilly have been represented, as we have always aimed to showcase
quality acts that transcend the usual lazy and contrived
categorisations.
Of course music alone was never our sole focus; numerous political and
social groups have had stalls at our gigs, while our benefit nights
have raised much needed cash for groups such as Seomra Spraoi social
centre, Revolt Video collective, Residents Against Racism and
Abolishing the Borders from Below magazine.
Unfortunatly our time at the Lower Deck has now come to an end, but
fear not, as a more than suitable replacement has been found in the
shape of Kennedy's of Westland Row (rear of Trinity College and close
to Pearse St Dart station). Not only does this venue have far superior
audio and visual equipment, but we will now be able to remain open
until 2.30am, meaning that in future post-gig DJs are going to be a
staple of our line-ups.

Lynched

Two street rats pick up a guitar and a tin whistle. The scrawny shits start to play and sing for food. People soon warm to their cheeky ballads of anti-authoritarian blackguardism and soon they have lots of friends, so they continue. After touring France they realise that their new found status can win them not only impressionable friends, but beer, and crusty bread with smelly cheese on it and after another years hiatus they played gigs again over the summer in mainland Europe. This will be their first gig since returning to Ireland from three months spent touring Canada, the USA and Mexico.

Can Kickers

The Can Kickers play loud, fast old timey music with the occasional funky beat thrown in. Think what would happen if Minor Threat and the Ramones picked up banjoes and fiddles and joined a New Orleans-style second line. The Can Kickers like to play DIY shows for people who like to dance. They've played basements, living rooms, bars, clubs, bomb shelters, on the back of a moving bus, on the back of a moving pickup truck, and even at a stadium once. They've played all over the US multiple times and taken a trip or two to Ireland and the Netherlands. It's all about having a good time, so come out and see them live when you can.

"The Can Kickers really know how to turn an old-time tune into a joyful, foot-stomping, shout it out, party!" -Tommy Ramone
