Why was Keir Starmer's recent speech on AI written like a Mr Men book? Prof James Alexander wonders if the Prime Minister knows what he's talking about. Is AI really "the ultimate force for national renewal"?

Climate hobgoblins have been long in the making whereas Covid ones crawled out of nowhere. But both put corrupted science in the service of tyrannical politics. Now, at last, the hobgoblins are fading, says Tilak Doshi.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), a leading non-governmental organisation for emergency medical aid, is holding an information evening on 18th October. Two MSF volunteers, Dr Simon Collins and Per Hedberg, will give presentations on their experiences of working in the field. Simon Collins is a GP from Dublin whose work has taken him to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Darfur in Sudan and the Central African Republic. Per Hedberg is a Swedish engineer who has worked in logistics and co-ordination in Indonesia/Papua and Burundi.

MSF provides independent medical relief to victims of war, disasters and epidemics in over 75 countries. We strive to provide assistance to those who need it most, regardless of ethnic origin, religion or political affiliation. Each year, about 3,000 doctors, nurses, midwives, finance and logistics specialists and engineers from around the world leave on field assignments where they work closely with thousands of national staff. In 1999 MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize.
