"Dig a grave in the breezes... then Palestine will have its place in the clouds"

Death Fugue (Paul Celan)

Black milk of daybreak we drink it at sundown
we drink it at noon in the morning we drink it at night
we drink and we drink it
we dig a grave in the breezes there one lies unconfined
A man lives in the house he plays with the serpents he writes
he writes when dusk falls to Germany your golden hair
Margarete
he writes it and steps out of doors and the stars are flashing he
whistles his pack out
he whistles his Jews out in earth has them dig for a grave
he commands us strike up for the dance

From Kuala Lumpur to Egypt, these women protested with us yesterday in Shop Street, Galway.!.
From Kuala Lumpur to Egypt, these women protested with us yesterday in Shop Street, Galway.!.

Black milk of daybreak we drink you at night
we drink in the morning at noon we drink you at sundown
we drink and we drink you
A man lives in the house he plays with the serpents he writes
he writes when dusk falls to Germany your golden hair
Margarete
Your ashen hair Shulamith we dig a grave in the breezes there
one lies unconfined

He calls out jab deeper into the earth you lot you others sing now
and play
he grabs at the iron in his belt he waves it his eyes are blue
jab deeper you lot with your spades you others play on for the
dance

Black milk of daybreak we drink you at night
we drink you at noon in the morning we drink you at sundown
we drink and we drink you
a man lives in the house your golden hair Margarete
your ashen hair Shulamith he plays with the serpents

He calls out more sweetly play death death is a master from
Germany
he calls out more darkly now stroke your strings then as smoke
you will rise into air
then a grave you will have in the clouds there one lies unconfined

Black day of daybreak we drink you at night
we drink you at noon death is a master from Germany
we drink you at sundown and in the morning we drink and we
drink you
death is a master from Germany his eyes are blue
he strikes you with leaden bullets his aim is true
a man lives in the house your golden hair Margarete
he sets his pack on to us he grants us a grave in the air
he plays with serpents and daydreams death is a master from
Germany

your golden hair Margarete

Paul Celan, the jewish writer, was the most frequently used pseudonym of Paul Antschel, one of the major poets of the post-World War II era. Both of his parents perished in the Shoah - Paul's father died of typhus and his mother was killed by a shot in the back of the neck in a death camp. Celan himself remained in another forced labour camp until February 1944, when the Red Army's advance forced the Romanians to abandon them.

Celan became a French citizen in 1955 and lived in Paris until his suicide by drowning in the river Seine on May 1, in 1970, at the age of 49.

In his pocket calendar he had written: ,"Depart Paul".

what has Paul Celan got to do with the barbarism current day Israeli's are inflicting upon the Palestinians today? Could you please explain the connection?

If your purpose is merely to remind us that Jews were killed by the Nazis might I reccommend that you peruse the section entitled 'Contact with Nazi authorities' in this wikipedia entry for The Stern Gang
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lehi

In 1940 and 1941, before the Wannsee Conference in 1942, Lehi proposed intervening in the Second World War on the side of Nazi Germany to attain their help in expelling Britain from Mandate Palestine and to offer their assistance in "evacuating" the Jews of Europe arguing that "common interests could exist between the establishment of a new order in Europe in conformity with the German concept, and the true national aspirations of the Jewish people as they are embodied by the NMO (Lehi)." Late in 1940, Lehi representative Naftali Lubenchik was sent to Beirut where he met the German official Werner Otto von Hentig. Lubenchik told Von Hentig that Lehi did not yet reveal all its power and that they're capable of organizing a whole range of anti British operations.

Hmm, solidarity with Islamic fundamentalists, how interesting! But you didn't tell us how your islamic friends feel about equality for women, gay rights, freedom of choice in the abortion issue, and some basic respect for pets, dogs in particular. Please enlighten me!

At least the Israelis don't torture or kill their own women for failing to cover up their faces!

How do you know?

well one thing we do know is that the islamic freaks do paddy boy
supporting people like islamic fundamentalists by christians is a right laugh, these people would quite happily stone you to death for your faith alone and treat their own people like dogs, the taliban are a small example, the palestinians support for sharia are another

Your entheusiasm to find reason to hate Muslims says all anyone really needs to know about where you are coming from. To use the Taliban as the Boogey man is very old and tired in its application at this late stage. Islamic freaks indeed.

Domestic violence is a universal thing, Israel has a high amount of wife beating and murdering going on. It's probably something to do with the complete militarisation of the society.
Not to mention the violence by Israeli soldiers against Palestinian women, Shooting them , rocketing them, beating them, forcing them to give birth at the side of the road etc etc.

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3309637,00.html

"This is not a routine situation, with a dozen women murdered within several months and emergency rooms filled with battered children with burned arms and legs, as a result of being subjected to merciless violence by their parents. And in the midst of this madness, there's nobody who seems to think something very bad is happening in Israel"

"Domestic violence is the most burning social issue, where people are being beaten up and murdered. "

Yes the Israelis do beat and kill their women. But Social and Domestic violence is not your issue at all, you are afraid of Muslims, you think they are a threat to you. You possibly feel intimidated and frightened by the insane Mussies in their scary flowing robes with the crazed red eyes and their bright shining Scimitars. You reckon they are all a bit savage , don't you? And that horrible language they are speaking, they're not really speaking at all are they?.

BTW When did you stop beating your wife?

id be more afraid of the bombs that they attach to their waists myself paddyboy, id only be afraid of their Scimatars if i was in the kneeling position like that poor unfortunate in Iraq that was beheaded. The taliban are not bogeyman im afraid to say, they are real and yes they are scary, their ideals are scary their methods are even scarier, i dont think women had any rights under the taliban, but im sure you can defend them none the less paddyboy. I think every country has some wifebeaters hanging around even Ireland wouldnt you paddyboy? but i would have to say that it pales into insignificance when compared to honour killings or is that acceptable to you as well paddyboy?

There seems to be a haste to ignore the fact that independent organisations have accused Israel of war crimes in both Lebanon and Palestine, where their intent, with US assistance, is to break the Palestinian people and engulf their state in poverty and social uselessness. I don't know why it is so difficult for us over here to accept that Israel is the aggressor, when even many peace-loving Israeli Jews accuse their own State of abuses against, for example, Palestinians.

Fred

Would you describe somebody who runs into a coffee shop and detonates a suicide belt, killing all around and injuring many an aggresive person? An acgreived person? An Insane person? A terrorist? a merciless person? A murderer? A misguided person? A person filled with hate? a mixture of all the above?

how would a state defend against such a person? do nothing? leave them on their merry way? If the palestinian representatives of their people could actually deliver any resembalence to law and order in the territories under their control, Israel would not go near those territories. the palestinian leadership are too busy bickering amongst themselves and killing each other and launching suicide bombers and mortar attacks on Israel as well as funnelling aid meant for their peoples into swiss bank accounts to bother with law and order in the territories, hence Israel has to act, it has no chioce untill the leadership become Leaders and stop being embezzlers
