a good friend of mine from valencia told me years ago of the intensity of liberation/separatist demos in 'spain' , having heard of many present day wars in central asia over recent (soviet era) redrawing of borders it is interesting to have the attention drawn to territory so close to us with cracks barely plastered over.
Galicia wants status,the Euskal Herria movement,Catalonia, even Valencianos.....under the PP in the last government Basque culture was severely punished...schools and newspapers were closed by masked police-imagine that the garda here closed an phoblacht there would be certainly heated discussion. I've heard first hand accounts of the physical abuse of basque journalists/academics...i'm not basque nor particularly pro basque but these things show that the attack on culture is a powerful weapon/tool.....ta dioma orm nach bhionn nios mo gealinn agam (is ca bhuil an fada?) ta an rud ceanna ag tarlu timpeall an domhain.....
