2pm Anti-Authoritarian Assembly + social

category dublin | anti-capitalism | event notice author Wednesday September 06, 2006 02:03author by Seomra Spraoiauthor email seomraspraoi at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Monthly(ish) gathering of libertarian activists

The first AAA to be held at the new social space on Ormond Quay. Main topic is due to be Rossport and the Solidarity Camp.

The Anti-Authoritarian Assembly is is a regular gathering of individuals and groups who are involved in libertarian/anarchist/DIY-type activities in Dublin city (you don't have to have any affiliation or label to come along).

This event offers those who attend a chance to catch up with what others are up to. All present will be given an opportunity to present a brief report, updating the AAA on their organisation/campaign/plans. Groups represented at these assemblies in the past have included: Seomra Spraoi, Anarchist Prisoner Support, Anarchist Youth, Workers Solidarity Movement, BODY, Shell to Sea, RAG, squatters, community gardeners and others (and non-affiliated).

This time the meeting will be hosted by Seomra Spraoi, the collective set up in 2004 to establish a social centre.

As suggested at the last AAA, a slightly different format is to be tried: one person will come along and speak on a particular topic and we'll have a chat about how we can all contribute to that etc, before proceeding with the usual updates and discussions. On this occasion it's due to be Rossport and the Solidarity Camp.

SOCIAL: The social is going to be in the same space, straight after: in other words, in the late afternoon.

BRING ALONG SOME FOOD!

VENUE: 6 Lwr Ormond Quay, close to Capel St bridge. Ring the top bell, with the word "Seomra" on it.

Thought the proposal (at the RAG hosted meeting at St. Nicholas Myra hall) was a 15 minute or so rap by one campaign and most of the meeting being a check in for mutual aid between groups.

Thought the idea was advertising two starting times, if folks want to skip the presentation and get into reports and mutual aid they could come later. This sounds like a meeting on Rossport?

Did the proposal change btween the St. Nicks meeting and this one? maybe there has been another AAA meeting in the meantime?

It would be helpful for me if you tell us when the Rossport presentation thing ends and the go around starts.

It's just a discussion before we get on to other stuff, just show up half an hour or so late. Short talk (10/15mins, as you said) by a rossporter. then a bit about how we can help etc.
Wouldn't be much point in having them talk with no feedback...

The time given for the talk helps. Thought the basic reason for gathering was changing. I stand corrected

I think it's a good idea to review how we think the structure or format of the meeting goes, to try out different things and see what works.
Last time I felt was good for hearing what everyone is up to but it would be good to have a time allotted for people who want to get something going and want to see who else is interested.
Or for potential new campaigns to be discussed.
I think this will happen this time with car free day as it was proposed in advance as an agenda item.

Anti Authoritarian Assembly and Social

This Sunday, 10th September at 2pm, Seomra Spraoi

Everyone is urged to attend the next AAA, which is a regular gathering of individuals and groups who are involved in libertarian/anarchist/DIY-type activities in Dublin city (you don't have to have any affiliation or label to come along).

The agenda will be drawn up on the day however, the general format for the day will include:
- Tea/Coffee/Water
- Introductions
- Discussion on Rossport Solidarity Camp/Shell to Sea
- Update from all groups/campaigns present
- Car Free Day
- Future discussion on Safer Spaces/Sexual Violence
- Any other future proposals
- Any other business

If anyone as anything else to add to the agenda come along on the day or email [email protected] in advance.

After the meeting there will be food and some music. This will give us all a chance to relax and chat. The social side of the meeting should definitely have kicked off by 5pm so those of you too delicate to sit through the AAA but interested in hanging out with the cream of Dublin’s libertarian activists should come along then. Bring food, bring music. All welcome.

Seomra Spraoi is on the first floor, 6 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1 (on the north quays between the Millennium Bridge and Capel St bridge, ring the top buzzer).

The last AAA took just two hours and was very enjoyable. Hopefully this too will prove to be an interesting and pleasant day.

(Note: It was hoped that there would be a speaker from Rossport Solidarity Camp present to tell us all about what is going on there. At the moment unfortunately it is unlikely they can make. Therefore, there will perhaps be a more general discussion about the Camp and the campaign and what we in Dublin can do to help. This will be for the first 15 or 20 minutes.)

Please forward.

20 folks gathered.
Roughly 50/50 male female.
Most folks in their 20's, early 30's. No on older than mid-40's.No kidz this time.

Meeting facilitaed very well by Mark and moved along with a lot of info shared,
-Detailed report from Rossport Solidairty Camp and specific solidarity suggestions.
-RAG report and thoughts of workshop on sexism safety issues for venue and broader libertarian scene.
Report from Seoma Sprai collective and hopes for the venue, use (private meetings/public events), making venue child friendly financing it etc
-Detailed porposal on demilitarising Shannon with NVDA should the government fail to rise to the occasion.
-Bicycle recycling, maintenance, proposal
-Car Free Day suggestions Sept. 22nd
-Report from informal Prison solidarity crew, especially onU.S. ELF activists rounded up recently nationwide by FBI. This crew has regular meeting at the venue.
-Report from WSM

-Report form Residents Ahainst Racism on responses to forthcoming deportation attempts by the State.
-Report from Manooth crew (presently finished or on holidays form uni)

Generally good vibe. Food and coffee shared before and after meeting. Probably shoul have passed the hat while we all seated to go toward venue rent. Donation box at the door and donations collected for food.

When's the next one?

the other (slighter larger subscribed to) AAA is the American Automobil Association, the US version of the AA here. Check out their logo, I'm guessing it was all a little joke, Hilda.

Also "are women involved in the sealing process?" is very a "very curious" question...
