ÓSF play active role in National Hungerstrike Rally

Any march that commemorates martyrs and kindles interest in current events, be it in Budahpest, Belfast or Beiging, deserves praise. If we do not know our past we cannot possibly know our future. would anyone, seriousley, have Ian Paisley and his Unionist lakeys running N.Ireland independantley?

Chris the past event was the deaths of Hunger Strikers. Some of us were there to remember them not to pledge our support for the Pro-partitionists on the platform.

As for the present prisoners in Maghaberry they are as political as was Bobby and the others, but they too are wasting their lives in jail. Incendiary bombs in carpet stores will achieve nothing but wasted years in jail.

Carlos there is indeed a struggle in place. Sinn Fein are struggling to be accepted by Unionists and allowed into Paisley's Government when he decides to set it up.

Queridos compañeros,

I've read your extremely critic comments about the hunger strikers rally commemoration.

In addition, I agree with the fact that it would be very important free all partisans, who deserve a reasonable pension, involved in the resistance and in the liberation’s war.

However, there is a struggle in place.

In other words, the revolutionary process triggered by the Hunger Striker’s political sacrifice is now based on the dialectics between us and our counterpart.

Moreover, we haven't won yet.

As a result, we must build the political determination in order to consolidate this victory which will grant freedom and happiness for all Irish people, nobody excluded..... (I couldn't have been clearer).

To conclude, it is time to hold the line together by implementing "be loved" dialectic between us instead insulting each other.

Comhghairdeas to the organisers of this commemorative event for those courageous blanket women and men (Dia go deo leo) who suffered greatly and gave up their lives for the betterment of others that came after them and a bualadh bos to all who attended the commemoration.

I hope all who attended the commemoration would please keep in mind the on-going plight today of republican political prisoners in Maghaberry Gaol and that they will give their support to them and highlight their five demands: (1) right to education; (2) end to controlled movement; (3) right to free association; (4) right to safe and secure visits and (5) right to organise their own landings.

Political Status - where did it go? Please can we have it back.

Instead of SF trying to silence the issue of today's prisoners, as claimed by some of my fellow anonymous keyboard warrior(s), the RPAG were allowed inside Casement Park to distribute leaflets to those on the march. Gerry Adams also addressed the issue during his speech, specifically mentioning Aiden Hulme as well as making a statement of support.

The IRSP erected a billboard on the fences of their office regarding the current prison prtest and Provisional "Sinn Fein"'s hard work to both undermine and ignore what is going on today with the fight for political status. While RSFmembers distributed thousands of leaflets on the plight of todays Republican prisoners who are on protest in Magheberry. Three of the Hungersrtikers were IRSP affiliated with the others being part of the Republican Movement. Both these groups worked togeather yesterday , not just to remember their comrades, but to highlight provisional hypocrisy regarding the CIRA prisoners on protest today.

Republicans will gather in Bundoran on August 26 at 3pm to remember their comrades with honour and dignity. It will be a sincere commemoration, not an electioneering stunt . Come show your support for the prisoners yesterday and today. Show you still care. Show you will stand be the Republic. Be there!

From the pictures above, and from the various reports ive read of the march, it would seem ÓSF and SF are continuing on the fight very noblely.

It tells me that the Hungerstrikers continue to inspire a new generation 25 years on!

Something tells me that many attending yesterdays event were there solely to commemorate the Hunger Strikers and if Sinn Fein thinks that they were in the whole supportive of their Partition in a 6 county Government with Paisley at the helm then they are very mistaken.

I think that this commemoration will be the last of it's kind because of this, as there are those of us who see them as Party Political Broadcasts.

Of course when ÓSF post up so many wonderful pictures of hundreds of young active republican socialists, everyone expects the guttersnipes to start their attack.

Maybe if the negative, pessimists of 'dissidism' actually got active, presented a real alternative, got rooted in reality, and starting being positive and realising the Brits where the actual enemy, then maybe then the youth may listen to them and take them seriously, unfortunately the gutter snipes are intent on insult only.

The Provisionals and provo youth exploits the anniversary of the hunger strikes purely for electoral reasons.

Provisional members are organising all sorts of commemorative events and collections under the slogan 'Remember the Hunger Strikers'. It is very ironic to see Provos commemorate the hunger strikers, while at the same time, the very rights for which the hunger strikers died, are being withdrawn without causing any protest from the leadership of the Provisional movement.

After the Good Friday Agreement of 1998, all so-called 'dissident' prisoners are being treated like ordinary criminals. Republicans are being criminalised once again and it feels like we are witnessing a case of deja-vu.

The GFA and the inevitabilty of the Provos endorsing a British police force surely was not worth spending one day in jail over never mind the sacrafices we witnessed over the course of the conflict.

Accepting and endorsing the police force of the North of Ireland is akin to putting on a screw's uniform in the H-Blocks shortly after the hunger strikes ended.

The hunger strikers died heroically twenty five years ago. Their spirit does not live in the hypocritical commemorations and tributes of those who are blind to the renewed attempts of the British government to criminalise Republican prisoners; but with those who resist oppression.

In conclusion, let me finish with the words of Patsy O Hara to his mother as he lay dying in the H-Blocks 25 years ago, ''Let the fight go on''.

News of the protest against criminalization, by Republican political prisoners at Maghaberry, will strike a chord deep within the hearts and memories of many nationalists and Republicans.

Twenty -five years ago, ten Irish patriots gave their lives in an unequal battle, resisting a British plan to brand them and their country's struggle against British rule as criminal.

Now, even as we pay homage to the memory of the hunger strikers of 1981, the British appear to be marking the anniversary in their own peculiar fashion, by attempting the same criminalization policy which triggered so much suffering a quarter century ago.

Such measures will have undeniable implications for the prisoners, their families, the British government and for those nationalist political parties which have endorsed the Stormont deal.

The provos do not want the plight of the prisoners acknowledged. Their rally yesterday was reminiescent of fianna fail circa 1923. All pagentry no substance! They are not Republican. They are part and parcel of the partitionist system.

Support the prisoners. It all well and good to commemorate, but to remember and not let it happen again takes principle. The Provos like all before who have left the true path of republicianism dont know how to remember and prevent the past abuses of prisoners by their new political masters in whitehall.
