Reminding the Taoiseach about the Shell to Sea campaign

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Tuesday July 18, 2006 01:06author by Shell to Seaauthor email dublinshelltosea at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

It's going to be like this right up until the election

On Sunday afternoon before the Dublin vs Offaly match in Croke Park, Shell to Sea protesters gathered outside St. Luke's in Drumcondra to meet the taoiseach as he walked to the stadium to watch the game.

Bertie Ahern makes a habit of opening his office in St.Luke's on match days, and meeting Fianna Fáil supporters there.

''All government candidates in next year's general election should get used to seeing Shell to Sea protesters, as the campaign is not going to go away'' said one of the demonstrators.

Attempts to speak to Mr.Ahern were stopped by his security guards, but one activist did manage to get a leaflet into his hands.

''He should read the leaflet'', said one of the organisers of the protest. ''He'll find out that we have asked people all around the country to get in touch with their TD's and ask them why this major natural resource is being given away, while people are still paying for cuts in social welfare provision, health, and education.''

that's the way to do it. Door step them, get in their faces and don't let them forget who they are supposed to be working for. Jumped up public servants the lot of them.
Well done Shell to Sea.

Are we looking at photographs of Taoiseach Bertie Ahern walking away from and refusing to talk or engage with citizens who are working voluntarily to correct one of the greatest mistakes made in the history of this State?

I'm sure he'll read that leaflet later and get on to Noel Dempsey to sort out the situation.

Maybe the next time someone doorstops Bertie, he ought to be presented with a big floppy hat - to complete his outfit.

Way to go folks!!
