US Citizens Against the War are holding a traditional 4th of July picnic to remind Americans their original war was against a superpower's empire

Press Release

US Citizens in Ireland are using the annual American Independence Day Celebrations to call for a independence for Iraq and Afghanistan at an alternative 4th of July Picnic to be held in front of the American Embassy complete with the traditional Independence Day menu of hot dogs, lemonade and apple pie on Suday 2nd July.
US Citizens in Ireland Against the War, formed in response to the American led invasion of Afghanistan, say they are holding the picnic to remind people what the original American revolution was all about.
“It was a war against empire; Americans particularly need to be remember that,” says Mary van Leishout, one of the group’s founders. “The US government’s justification for its endless ‘Global War on Terror’ is makes any country a potential target. It is eroding the very civil liberties that the original Declaration of Independence called for. Unless we can turn things around, it threatens us all.”
Everyone is welcome to the picnic, which will be held on Sunday the 2nd of July at 1 p.m. in front of the US embassy in Ballsbridge. The picnic will focus on what American and Irish citizens can do change the current direction of US foreign policy including its threats to Iran and its support for Israel’s activities in the occupied territories.
