Epic cycle to Rossport Solidarity Camp

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Thursday June 01, 2006 00:33author by anarchyvist - GrassrootsDissent/Shellto Sea Dublin Report this post to the editors

Too mean to pay the €27 for the bus, 3 activists took part in a cycle from Dublin to this weekend's gathering at the Rossport Solidarity Camp...
An enthusiastic send off...
An enthusiastic send off...

Hundreds of local children bade farewell to three intrepid cyclists last Sunday morning as they (the cyclists) set out on the long trip to the Rossport Solidarity Camp.

Undaunted by rush hour Sunday mass traffic, the peleton departed from a west Dublin estate, their compasses directing them in a northwesterly direction towards Trim and beyond. Their progress was arrested by the many well wishers lining the route with gifts of buttock balm and ladies' knickers for the male participant.

Ater being joined by a number of other cyclists off the train in Tullamore yesterday they cycled a full 116km before holing up in a safe house in Mayo. Latest reports are that they are ensconced in a field in Castlebar, one injury is slowing them down somewhat. So no torrential rain for ye then?

The bike crew, now numbering six, were contacted on Wednesday night at 11.30 pm. They were in Manulla, which is, I think, a little south of Foxford. They appeared either delirious, or fish out of water, and were speaking about farmers setting cows on them and something called “holy water”. One commented “It is nice cycling, we are all sun burnt”. They should be at the camp by Friday afternoon, in time for the gathering, more about which is here: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/75293
