Rally to "Stop This Road"

category mayo | environment | event notice author Wednesday May 17, 2006 10:16author by Cllr Keith Martin - Stop this Road Report this post to the editors

There will be a protest rally at 3pm on Sunday May 21 at the Quay School end of the Railway Line Walk
Walking the walk
Walking the walk

A road is to be built over, and adjacent to, the Railway Line Walk and constructed straight through the neighbouring wetlands which are home to many birds, animals & wildflowers.

The route of the road also compromises the integrity of the Railway Line Walk by bringing traffic, noise and other human activity along the side of the walk. This disrupts the peaceful nature of the walk, disturbs the wildlife of the area and in the process destroys a wetland, which is home to Herons, Mallards, Cootes and Moorhens.

Your support is needed to call on the councilors and officials of Westport Town Council to stop this road way. Please attend!

Well Keith it looks like it's just yourself and 'Elvis.'

Maybe your could chain yourself to a JCB or something.

Or maybe get a load of them disabled folks you've championed, to block the way and deny the machinary 'access' in a poignant and ironic reversal of reality.

I tell you Keith, you're making a fundamental tactial error in what you do and moreso in what you don't do. If you did anything other than talk and I do mean anything, someone would listen. Tis the great truism of our time - that people don't listen to words anymore - but they do listen to action.

When you call for someone to take the lead you cannot masquerade as a leader.

Council needs to consult with Disabled Community - http://www.indymedia.ie/article/75450

It will take more than a rally to stop this but it is a good start.

Have we got any INdymedia people committeed to attend?

What else is planned?
