But not so much when they're Left-Wing, says Steven Tucker. Which is probably why you've never heard of the alleged crimes of this gay rights activist.

Community radio in Central America and Ireland
This series, produced by NEARfm, will offer an overview of the similarities and differences of community radio in Ireland. Listen to NEAR101.6 fm or to our live streaming www.nearfm.ie or the podcasts the week after programmes are being aired. Programme 1: Global Waves: History
Saturday 13 May, 6 pm
Thursday 18 May, 3pm
We will look at the communities, their social and political history past and present, their experience and perception of media, their motivation behind the communities and the response from the governments -legislation and regulation.
Programme 2: Global Waves: Ownership
Saturday 20 May, 6 pm
Thursday 25 May, 3pm
We look into social resources and structures when the communities manage to get it all together –the studios, the technology and the training- and the motivations behind the choosing of a particular ownership model for the community radios. And the response from the state.
Programme 3: Global Waves: The Impact
Saturday 27 May, 6 pm
Thursday 1 June, 3pm
We will examine the development of the communities since the opening of the radio station. What have changed and what remains, and the role of community radio –if any- on it all. Where do the communities see themselves in the future and where do they see their community radio.
Programme 4: Global Waves: the future
Saturday 3 June, 6 pm
Thursday 8 June, 3pm
We’ll document the reality of community radio in Latin America, where governments are still quite reluctant to facilitate communities with their own communication facilities. As a possible alternative, the programme will look at the development of technologies as a way to ensure the right to communicate.
These programmes will be podcast at a latter stage
