Heya, well done on the video content, look forward to seeing the 15m version on Thursday... but how come you's arent using something open source like XviD (there's a tutorial on how to do it on your website!!) or ogg theora? Both of these offer better compression at the same data rate as mpeg2.

Hope ye don't think I'm throwing negativity your way - but it'd be great if ye compressed the videos down massively to 20MB or something, just for quick viewing on the web it takes an age to download some of the files ye upload. Quality doesn't really matter if your just viewing it in a quarter screen or whatever.

They don't do it like this on the 9 o'clock news!

Street theatre of an entertaining and edifying kind. Some very fine speeches and comments to the Gardaí at the entrances. It must bother them immensely that they are colluding with torture.

I never heard of the crime of attempted urination before. Is somebody taking the piss?

Best,
Coilín.

Yes Coilin, holding your dick in your hand in public is a crime. I like the way they cut the bit with the guy saying the Gardaí didn't beat him from the first footage. Shows how biased this crowd are. If you're going to edit all your footage like this, only brainless propaganda swallowers will support your cause.

First of all, it isn't as if he was swinging his mickey around in the city centre, we were in the middle of nowhere, and he went into a field. He did what any of the guards would have if they needed to take a piss. I was there, it was clearly a trumped up excuse for an arrest. And as for the editing; they had to cut down hours of footage into a few minutes. Why would they leave in that, they were there to film what the guards did, not a chap talking about what they didnt do. The footage shows lots of bad behaivior by the cops, there is no need to put an angle on it, as you suggested is being done. There is stuff that i witnessed first hand that unfortunately didn't get captured, like one guy who was held down by two or three gardai getting his hair grabbed and wrenched by another irate cop

I beg to differ. I did not see many reprehensible acts by the Gardaí. I did see protesters doing a lot of stupid things though. Perhaps if it was a better organised march things would have gone better.

what were the stupid things you saw protesters doing? Doing something to prevent them pissing themselves..was that a stupid thing worthy of arrest?

Nice piece of film yet again from the good people at Revolt.
Shows well the fytility of the arrests as mere means of a reassertion of power by the cops.
Fair play to all those who went to Baldonnel and faced off with the State and its shameful
complicity in this latest imperial campaign.
Keith, regressive, obedient, subordinate attitudes like yours are a product of your nurture,
dont worry about it,theres a chink of light at the end of the principals corridor even for you my friend!
Onwards!

My nurture was quite good thank you. Seems to me that there was quite a crowd around the man who was pissing in a secluded spot. So what stupid things did the crowd do? try and pull down the fence around a military base? Not the kind of actions you'd expect of a peaceful protest. Deserved a couple of arrests. Drinking beer on the long bus ride to Baldonnel? Has to come out the other side eventually. Think ahead next time. If you can. Trying to pull an arrestee from the hands of a Garda? Thats quite illegal. Perhaps you could have dealt with it in a civilised way and merely picked him up from the station when he was bailed. If he didnt do anything he wouldnt have had to worry about court. Even if he did do something he probably would have gotten off. You can say what you want about the Gardaí but its plainly obvious who started the aggression. I quote "If you don't step aside we will go through you." Not something I'd expect to hear at a peaceful march.

I am not a Garda, a soldier, a politician or any other occupation you could link with the state. I am a college student. I am far from subservient or obedient. In fact I regularly voice my opposition to state practices in my own way. Perhaps my causes aren't as high and mighty as yours but i dont see how that makes you better than me. Athough fair play to Starstruck as the only other person on indymedia who appears not to be a fascist. I'm so glad that you will make room for me in your new world order. Perhaps we that disagree with your principals could wear a Star of David to identify ourselves. It worked for the nazis didn't it.

Lets see how you all get on during the next blue flu when someone in your family is assaulted, raped or murdered. Perhaps then you will see why the Gardaí tend to take things as seriously as they do. They dont go through two years of training to play chasing with you lot, they train to stop violent people and I personally am sick of you lot taking up their time when rape and murder rates are on the up and up.

It is in the nature of the cop beast to waste time by harassing activists. It is not a crime to assist a guy to resist an illegal arrest. You are right the cops should have been off tracking down rapists and murderers. Who knows, they might even have found some in the base. You never know when US forces are passong through.

author by Ypublication date Tue Apr 25, 2006 17:46author address author phone Report this post to the editors

None of these arrests are illegal. These are people trying to break into a military base. They should have been arrested long before they got anywhere near Baldonnel.
