International - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 Reclaim the bases: Global Call for Anti-militarist action against war
Anti-militarist alternative - MOC, coordination of antimilitarist groups
from Spain, is calling for protests, nonviolent direct actions and civil
disobedience at all military bases throughout the world in the next weeks.
Anti-militarist alternative - MOC, coordination of antimilitarist groups
from Spain, is calling for protests, nonviolent direct actions and civil
disobedience at all military bases throughout the world in the next weeks.
This is an international call to all activists, groups and networks
interested in antimilitarist action to perform disobedient actions in
military complexes and areas. Let's block the machinery of global war
that makes all of us, at both sides of the TV screen, potential
victims. Let's look beyond the headlines and point at the
agents involved in the preparation and promotion of that
form of global control and government called war. Reclaim the
bases, barracks, military exercise fields and military industries:
not an inch of land to war. Let's demand the dismantling of military
infrastructure in our society and its devolution for a social and
ecological use.
The activities may include civilian weapons inspections,
nonviolent blockades, vigils, demonstrations and other creative
actions in military bases, barracks, recruitment offices, weapons
manufacturers or financial firms investing in the arms industry.
As in the last two years, and following the example of
the recent disobedience actions in the UK, a number of actions at military
sites throughout Spain will take place in the next weeks. Marchs, direct
actions and civil inspections are planned at the NATO's Response Force
(NRF) HQ in Valencia (Bétera), the US aeronaval base in Rota, the
exercise camp in San Gregorio (Zaragoza), the bombing camp of Las Bardenas
(Navarra), the radar base of Sierra Aitana (Alacant), the Spanish Army
quarter in Mungia (Bizkaia) and the NBQ research site of La Marañosa
(Madrid), among other sites that that definitely turn the Spanish
territory into a gigantic training and military agression platform that
points towards the South.
The capitalist exploitation and its armed defense in a global scale are
the two sides of the same coin of a system without scruples, based on
the profit of a minority and our submission. The era of globalization of
militarism: liquidation of civil liberties at home and merciless global
war outside. The new anti-terror lagislation in the UK, which limits
demonstration and freedom of expression rights, and the increasing threat
of a military attack on Iran are the most recent confirmations of this
process.
We need, then, to bring about, among all social movements, actions
towards demilitarisation and aboliton of the army, towards a peace
culture that leads to a radical change that gives us back control over
our own lives. We want to break with the alleged consensus imposed by the
media about the origins of and solutions to violence. During this month we
want to open spaces for debate and direct action, for a joint action between
anti-militarist and anti-capitalist movements and other fights against every
form of domination and oppression.
