I'm not much of a shinner myself, but still this beats the Government farce.I feel solidarity with SF none the less,so I'll be there.

90 years on,the spirit lives on.

Is this thing linking up with the free state one ?

author by Tank Girlpublication date Fri Mar 31, 2006 18:32author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Of course. But its a surprise! It will be a Coup D'Etat. Flanked by AKM wielding Volunteers, Adams will eject Bertie from the VIP stand. He will introduce a grinning General De Chastelin as the Chief of Staff of the new combined Oglaigh na hEireann. Phil Flynn becomes Governor of the Central Bank and Slab is Minister for Cross Border Commerce.

Barry, they are now so linked in to the southern establishment - it IS (effectively) the Free State Commemoration!

Whatever about what the Staters (above threads) are doing for Easter , a Republican Commemoration will be held on Easter Monday , 17 April next , when those attending will assemble at the Garden of Remembrance at 2 pm for the Parade to the GPO .

Leinster House , Stormont , Westminster and/or the British Embassy/Ambassador will not be present or represented .
Bertie has sent his apologises re his absence (signing more blank cheques , it seems) while Gerry , too , will be otherwise engaged (signing copies of his latest [13th?] book).
Irish Republicans , however , will be there !

Sharon .

I'm getting really confused about these Marches would I be right in sayying this is what is happening on Easter Weekend
Saturday-SinnFein March
Sunday-Goverment Parade / Baldonnell March
Monday-R.S.F March

Would it not be better if all Republicains R.S.F ,Sinn Fein etc hold a counter March on the Sunday to show Republicain Solidarity and disgust with the Goverment hi-jacking Pearse and Connelly Mac Donagh etc.....Or will this put Gerry and Martin in an awkward position???

author by ?publication date Thu Apr 06, 2006 18:48author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Maybe socialists should organise a counter-counter demonstration over the disgust at the republican hi-jacking of James Connolly. It certainly wouldn't put socialists in an awkward position.

Eh was'nt James Connelly a republicain Socalist ?
So how is Republacian Socalists using him as an inspiration hi-jacking him??

was a Marxist and an internationalist and was fundementally opposed to Sinn Fein and all forms of nationalism

author by Bpublication date Thu Apr 06, 2006 22:43author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Yes James Connolly was a Marxist and an Internationalist but he also belivied in the Freedom of Ireland. And he disagreeed with sinn Fein's position at the time (as he would probabaly do today) as there leader Griffith wanted to establish a Dual Monarchy much like DeV wanted in favour of the Treaty..
So yes James was A Republicain

It is important not to forget the huge difference between Sinn Fein of now and the Sinn Fein of 1916. The organisations ideals are far from the ideals that Griffith had first invisaged.

lads and lassies,

can ye not just give the sniping and namecalling a rest and just come together to commemorate a bunch of lads who gave their lives in the name of irish freedom.
they werent fighting for partition or statesmanship or whatever else has happened to this country since. its not about celebrating the way the country is now, its about celebrating what our great grandfathers generation did for the country.

forget about yourself and your ideals for once and pay your respects

To all those so called Republicans who failed to show for the parade in Armagh, shame on you, when Pearse called our brave fenian soldiers tot he fold to try and free our great country, nobody shirked their role. Only 30 to 40 people showed on easter monday to pay their respects to the brave soldiers of 1916, that was a disgrace, It was the oppurtunity to show the unionist council that the beleif in a united Ireland was still as strong as ever despite the stand down of oglaigh na hEirehann. On this year of the 90th anniversary of the rising it should have been the chance for armagh to show its support with our fenian comrades all round the 32 counties. You shirked your part in the patriot game, shame on you. The real republicans will never forget the sacrafice of 1916 and i just hope when it comes round to remembering our brave heroes who died for our country in the cages of long kesh, that you will be there in force. Or has the spirit of freedom died for good in irelands city of saints and scholars? Saoirse na hEirehann. Tiocfaidh ar la. 1916-2006 90 years of Irish resistance. Oglaigh na hEirehann for god and Ireland.
