Solidarity With French Youth In Revolt!

Over the past three weeks a wave of protests and occupations have gripped France. On March the 7th over one million people protested against the French governments attempts to introduce the C.P.E, a new law that reduces the rights of young workers. Since then 64 universities have been occupied by students and protests and riots are a daily occurrence. Secondary school students have joined their peers and staged walkouts throughout the country. The French government has responded by unleashing their notorious police force, the C.R.S, against the strikers. Hundreds of arrests have been made and a 39 year old Trade Unionists remains in a coma after a brutal attack by the police.

The current wave of unrest is a response to the French governments attempt to introduce the C.P.E., a new law which allows employers to fire young workers at any stage during their first two years of employment. It reintroduces night work for people as young as 15 and lowers the school leaving age to 14. While the government claims that this is an effort to cut unemployment the youth of France know otherwise.

This new law encourages bosses to hire young, easily exploitable workers, and then fire them before they become permanent creating a pool of insecure, low paid workers that can be used to drive down wages through out the French economy. It introduces job insecurity as a method of controlling workers and the Union movement. The French trade union movement has recognized this and have called a general strike for the 28th of March.

The French governments plans are just the latest in a series of attempts by bosses and governments across Europe to drive down wages and working conditions. Young people are among the most vulnerable and easily exploitable sectors and they have felt the brunt of this attack. In Ireland young workers are not subject to the minimum wage and have no union representation. It is only by linking the struggles of young people and workers that people can effectively fight back against the agenda of the bosses and their lackeys in government.

These self-interested demos are against an overdue reform initiated by Dominique de Villepin, the prime minister - and they're are being led by Sorbonne students, public employees and other "in" groups." They're motivated by the exact opposite drivers of the recent banlieue disturbances - you don't even have to go back to 1968 to see how reactionary these an anti-CPE chancers really are.

These French students are not radicals. They have a pie-eyed naivety about the prospects of saving an inefficient, rigid, employment system for the haves, at the expense of the have nots. It is motivated by contempt for the third world, globalisation, and immigrants. It's about protecting the privelege of French "workers" from the competition of fellow workers who are willing to work. The Frenchy welfare system is just "crony socialism".

The CPE allows employers to fire workers under 26 years old in the first two years of employement without giving any reason whatsoever.

Anybody who protests against the removal of such a privelege is obviously a reincarnation of the bourbon monarchy.

Why are Irish Anarchists supporting this violence which is nothing but an attempt to preserve the status quo and retain privilege. There is NOTHING revolutionary about this event, it's the opposite of 1968. These people are rioting to preserve their summer country house, work-free August in France, and the other arrogance of a culture that sees a President walk out of a meeting because a Frenchman spoke English and where thousands of old people died of heat exhausation because their families had fucked off to their holiday homes in the summer.

Lots of positive feedback from French and Irish people today, one person even called up their French comrades who announced to the crowd at their occupied University that Irish anarchists support their struggle which got us a cheer over the phone.

More solidarity work to follow over the next week.

... other than barely coherent "criticisms"? I like the way more people on here are suggesting the anarchists go further, yet I get the impression they'll still be the ones continuing with their criticisms regardless.

Why don't you all bring your chalk and write slogans on the pavement and send a shockwave through the french establishment that will bring down the government thats bound to be more effective that the general strike the working class are planning!
