Vicious assault by riot police during Greek general strike

category international | eu | news report author Thursday March 16, 2006 01:23author by Athenian Report this post to the editors

Greek general strike on 15th March led to the following

VICIOUS ASSAULT ON WORKERS POWER BLOCK BY RIOT POLICE DURING GREEK GENERAL STRIKE-15th March 2006

Τhe provocative and murderous assault of the riot police against the Ergatiki Exousia-Workers Power in the demonstration called by the Greek Trade Union GSEE-ADEDY just before Sintagma Square constitutes a link in the chain of repression and the democracy of the policemans baton

Nothing new here. The young riot cops believe that with police clubs and violence and their terrorism they can dampen the fighting spirit of the labour movement. Despite the vicious assault which our block encountered we continued the demo until the end, with slogans against state terrorism, slogans which the whole demo adopted, with the final slogan being “police out of demos”. Something which finally occurred under the pressure of the demonstration.

The cdes (those of which we know) who have ended up in hospital Genimatas are the following

Cde Kiriakos Vasalos member of the central council of teaching union in Piraeus was injured viciously with a broken hand and injuries to the head.

Chris T. 68 year old pensioner member of the League of Tortured-Imprisoned-Exiled victims of the Junta was injured viciously with a broken arm and nose as well as other injuries.
Cde. KK electrician from the Skaramaga shipyards
Cde GP a telecoms worker
Cde. GM a student

Each one of them are undergoing medical tests. The government of capital, of poverty and unemployment finds recourse only in brute oppression.

The want to impose a society of the stillness of the graveyard. The servants of the capitalists are being guarded with terror laws, anticommunist statutes and preventative judicial trials against militants.

The violence of the state of capitalists will be replied on the streets. It will be answered with even more decisive struggles of the oppresses which will bury the decaying society and its praetorian guards.
