The New York Times Bestseller list is "pure propaganda", says Elon Musk. The newspaper even admitted in court it is "editorial content", not factual. But what about the Sunday Times version? Steven Tucker investigates.

Israelis storm Palestinian prison

Israeli troops have taken control of a prison in the West Bank town of Jericho, firing on the jail, destroying its walls and killing a guard.
They are trying to seize militant Ahmed Saadat, blamed for the killing of a minister. He is refusing to surrender.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has blamed the withdrawal of UK and US prison monitors for the raid.

The Israeli raid in Jericho has sparked a series of clashes and protests in Gaza, and at least one kidnap.

A BBC correspondent at the prison in Jericho says there has been Israeli tank and helicopter fire on the jail.

An Israeli bulldozer could be seen demolishing walls outside the prison. Our correspondent says a number of Palestinian guards and Mr Saadat, are still holed up in part of the prison.

In related events:

The International Red Cross has confirmed that its director in Gaza has been kidnapped.

A British cultural centre in Gaza has been set ablaze and an EU compound stormed.

Hundreds of people in Gaza and Jericho have been demonstrating against the Israeli raid.

Palestinian militants from the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades in Gaza City have warned US and UK nationals to leave the Palestinian territories immediately.
Reports from Jericho said Mr Saadat, of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and several of his colleagues were refusing to come out of the prison.

Sa'adaat, shobaki Arrested, operation not over yet
George Rishmawi - IMEMC - Tuesday, 14 March 2006, 18:38

Palestinian sources confirmed that Ahmad Sa'adaat, Secretary General of the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine and four of his comrades allegdly accused of killing the Israeli Minister Rehavam Zevi in 2001. The source also confirmed the arrest of Fuad Al Shobaki, who is accused of bein ginvolved in attempting to enter the Karine A ship which was fully loaded of arms to the Palestinian areas.

Sa'adaat was seen taken by Israeli troops by separate vihecle to an unknown destination after he walked out with scors of prisoners from Jericho prison.

An Israeli military spokesman said the wanted people are arrested but the operation is not over yet. He added that Israeli troops arrested over 200 Palestinians in this invasion.

Barghouthi: The International Community Should be ashamed for what happens in Palestine today

Member of the Palestinian Parliament Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi said the International community should be ashamed of the Israeli attack against unarmed prisoners in Jericho prison. Barghouthi who said it took him ten hours to arrive to Jericho from Ramallah, described the Israeli invasion to the Jericho prison as a crime that the international community should immediately intervene to stop.

He accused US and UK governments of being involved in a conspiracy with the Israeli government to invade the prison.

The Israelis have conceded that they do not have enough evidence to try Comrade Saadat for executing an Israeli minister. They are however continuing to illegally detain him and intend to try him as well as four comrades on other trumped up charges.

Israel drops militant trial plan

Mr Saadat initially resisted arrest by Israeli forces storming his jail
Israel will not prosecute captured Palestinian militant boss Ahmed Saadat over the 2001 assassination of Israeli cabinet minister Rehavam Zeevi. Israeli officials said there was not enough evidence to try him for the killing - though he would be tried for other "security offences".

Mr Saadat gave himself up in March after Israeli troops stormed a West Bank jail where he was being held. Four militants taken with him will be tried for the killing, officials said.
