Another decade of social partnership.
Are we going to take it without a fight?

Reconvened meeting: 8 pm, Monday 13th March 2006.

On Monday 20th February there was an open meeting of trade unionists to discuss the establishment of a broad and effective campaign against the coming partnership deal and related matters.

After a long discussion it was agreed in principle that there would be a campaign of arguments and ideas around the forthcoming ballots on proposals for a new deal. Though a leaflet would be produced the campaign would not have the resources for blanket coverage of all workplaces. The meeting was also in agreement that there is a need to build a serious and sustained presence in the unions of those who are opposed to social partnership and for democratic and fighting unions. It was agreed that people would take these conclusions away for consideration, and to their respective organisations where appropriate, and reconvene at another meeting.

So, there will be a reconvened meeting on Monday 13th March at 8 p.m. in the Teachers Club, Parnell Square, Dublin to take the discussion forward and follow up any decisions on a possible campaign.

At time of writing it appears that the negotiators are having great difficulty in putting an agreement together. We are proceeding on the basis that they will produce a deal in the end. All trade unionists are welcome to attend.
