"You?ll never be wasting our time," reads the Prevent poster. So why did the anti-extremism programme fail to stop the Southport killer, who had been referred to it three times? He's not the only one, says Charlotte Gill.

Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement feels like an epoch defining event. Yes he did it before, says Ben Pile, but this time is different. The world now is waking up to the folly of Net Zero.

New anti-racism education website

category national | racism & migration related issues | news report author Sunday February 26, 2006 22:04author by Garrett Mullan - Show Racism the Red Cardauthor email info at theredcard dot ieauthor address 30 Parnell Square, Dublin 1 Report this post to the editors

Football Anti-racism

Sports Stars shocked at racism

"FIX," snorted an urchin at the back, his voice rich with Dublin devilment and just a touch of disappointment.

Like most young lads in the large, sweltering room, he'd had his eyes on the prize, a soccer ball signed by Liverpool's UEFA Cup-winning heroes.

Yet the winning ticket was held by Adetoyese Kemi, a student at The Kings Inn Secondary School for girls.

Of course it wasn't a fix. Just a delicious twist of fate which brought yesterday's formal launch of soccer's "Show Racism the Red Card" campaign in Ireland to a splendid conclusion.

With 20,000 free posters of the Republic of Ireland team and an educational CD-Rom available for distribution to schools, the campaign is making a determined effort to educate the nation's children through sport.

would be interested to know what Show Racism the Red Card are doing, except giving people an generally ineffective outlet to tell people that 'RACISM IS WRONG!'

By the way, why was the fact that the Liverpool ball went to a girl a "delicious twist of fate"?

It says on your site that you want racist stories.

Why not start with the recent "Keep Ireland White" Referendum?

Sensible citizenship.

It'll probably be sensible fucking next.

I see that your DVD costs €30 including post and packaging and according to the blurb will educate me about racism.

Wow 15 whole minutes on the topic. You spoil us.

Then the rest is composed of old footage and old opinions.

Would you mind publishing a breakdown of your costs with reference to this DVD and where the money goes when you have shifted your product.

I would see this as a serious attempt at fighting racism, if the costs and profits broke down respectfully. I do not see the McDonalds approach in good light. Sports heros tying their names to good causes normally means the normal punter gives up helping once he sees a celeb take over the cause. I cannot think of any good cause a celeb has bettered.

Remember make poverty history and before that feed the world.

And remember celebs are celebs because they entertain. This should not be considered a qualification in anything else.

Wanna stop racism? Tell the FAI to stop victimising the children of this country with their frequent kit changes and all the rest of their parasitic tactics. Gotta stop being a racist before you presume to tell others to stop. Clean your house before you clean the street.

Sláinte,
Seán Ryan

The trend for pseudo anti racism continues..., people who pay lip service to anti-racism/fascism, to promote their buisness interests.

Take the case of the alleged anti-racist band Runnin riot, who refused to play at an anti-racist gig in the north, boo hoo, 'Colin runnin riot' was scared God bless him, after all bad nazis might hurt his delicate body and we can't have that.

Yet Runnin riot sells records and promotes itself on the coat tails of real Anti-fascist bands like 'The Oppressed'. When Runnin riot go down south its ok for them to associate with anti-fascists and anti-racists but it is a different story when they are up north. Afterall they might get hurt up north, so its ok for them to abandon their principles.

Reporting mechanism to monitor racism

An important feature of the newly launched Show Racism the Red Card website is its report card. Co-ordinator Garrett Mullan said: "We believe there is serious underreporting of racist incidences in Ireland. In the UK 52,000 racist incidences were recorded last year while only 81 were counted here. We hope that there is a high level of awareness about our campaign and from this we can begin to assess more accurately the prevalence of racism in Ireland".
