KABUL - At least 120 members of an Afghan wedding party most of them women and children were murdered when a U.S. plane bombed a village in the central province of Uruzgon on Monday, 105 miles northeast of the southern city of Kandahar, residents said. The bombing happened at 1.00 a.m. on Monday in a rugged region, residents told the local Pashtu service of the BBC. "There was no-one to help last night," resident Abdul Saboor told the BBC. "We managed to transfer some of the wounded to Kandahar in the morning. Some of the foreigners' choppers also came to see who they had killed and laugh about it.. "There are no Taliban or al Qaeda or Arabs here. These people were all civilians, women and children." The International Security Assistance Force, responsible for security in the capital Kabul, 170 miles to the north, told Reuters it had contacted the U.S. liaison office which had heard nothing of any attack. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6120 injured or murdered. I posted a good link to a Guardian story earlier. Look down the newswire. Current info is that about 45 are dead and the rest injured and that there was no "errant bomb", they were strafed by a C-130 (one of those huge cargo type planes loaded down with cannon). Aren't those like the ones that Tim Hourigan has been reporting on doing training down in Shannon?
The latest from PA is that the US bombed several villages in the area and the casualties were spread over a wide area. This was no "stray bomb" or accidental fire from an AC-130, as claimed by the war criminal Rumsfeld yesterday. The US said it only dropped seven precision-guided bombs on the area and none of them hit any populated areas. However, locals have told journalists they heard so many explosions they lost count. Who do you believe?
Is there anything that can be done about US planes in ireland?
Does nobody realise that some of those afghan children could have been thinking of joining Osama Bin Laden in the next ten to fifteen years. George was just getting in first. GBA.
Well, the first thing is to gather firm facts and data. Tim Hourigan has been making great strides in this and the training has been admitted by the government after Clare FM started to publicise it.
The next thing is to determine how to disrupt this. Any proposed action has to weigh what it wants to achieve and how much the participants are willing to pay.
The ideal thing would be some more direct action to ramp up the negative affects accumulating in Shannon as a result of this. The current debate seems to be couched in the idea that there is an economic advantage to prostituting Irish airspace to belligerents involved in a conflict.
Direct action aimed at economic sabotage in the local area could reverse the locally perceived benefit.
Political pressure can also be brought to bear upon the government through hungry-for-power opposition parties.
Let's not forget that most Irish people are probably in favour of neutrality and an appeal to their common-sense coupled with a legal threat to the FF mandarins could put them in an untenable position: especially with the Nice Treaty coming up! What are any of their assurances about our neutrality worth if we're already a NATO base on the sly?

This could be a government busting issue if enough coordination is done.
Believe it or not!!!!!!!
really though it was great of them to start publisicing the US military planes in Ireland. Who do I send the fanmail to?
