WHAT'S UP WITH SHELL?
Get the inside information on a landmark campaign that will grow in
momentum and significance in 2006.

The latest community movement against a multinational giant is happening
on our doorstep. Last summer controversy kicked off when five Co. Mayo residents
were imprisoned indefinitely. They had been required by court order to
allow contractors hired by Shell access to their farms and those of
their neighbours; they refused. Their struggle has won a significant
victory in securing their release, and in successfully preventing
Shell continuing the destruction of the bay.

The 'Rossport 5' are free and work on the Corrib Gas Pipeline has
stopped for the winter but the battle is far from over...

Their supporters are currently touring the UK to explain the
background to the campaign and what they plan for the coming spring.
An activist from the campaign will speak on wednesday 16th february in the Peace House, 224 Lisburn Road. The talk starts at 18:30 and is free.

There will also be video shorts from "Raised Voices" screened by Green
Action – community struggles worldwide.

We've mainly been doing solidarity protests, but because of the current stoppage of Shell's work and the Rossport 5 being involved in talks on the issue (not to mention the weather!) we're waiting until everything kicks off again so that we can try to direct people towards what's going on.

Still no reply on who's organising this. No word on who the campaign activist who'll be speaking is. Is it going to be one of the people who recently returned from their UK tour? Will it be a SWPer in disguise?

Some clarity would be nice.

"whose was involved in belfast shell to sea"

In everything we've done we've had support from individual members of Sinn Féin, the SWP, the IRSP, and Organise! as well as independent types. We operate as a fairly loose connection of activists, so it's not like there's a central committee that could essentially be just a front for some particular organisation.
