New Basque Independent Media Center

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday June 30, 2002 12:31author by Arista Report this post to the editors

Irish people can follow what happens on the Basque Country by Indymedia

Since this week, Independent Media Center has a new member. Euskal Herria (Basque Country) has joined Indymedia, so all the world and, concretely, our irish brothers, can now follow directly, without political non economical pressure, what happens in the basque society.

too much nationalism!

author by Aristapublication date Sun Jun 30, 2002 14:35author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I have first to say that even I wrote the note about the new Basque IMC,I am not a member or a promotor of the Indymedia Euskal Herria.
The new Basque Independent Media Center is not a nationalist media. It is just another hand of the global IMC. I do not agree with the commentary above ("uhhh... too much nationalism")because I believe that all the Indymedia centers allow the people to publish whatever they think it is interesting, even if the publisher is nationalist or not. So you can tell that maybe I look nationalist, and that you do not like it, and try to explain it. But, please, do not try to confuse the people. Even you do not say clearly where do you see "too much nationalism", it looks like you are talking about the Basque IMC that, probably, you do not even know, or did not know when you wrote your comment.
I am a little bit surprised with that comment, mostly because the name of the person who signs it("Paddy Internationalist"). Are you sure, Paddy (good irish whiskey!) that you know which is the meaning of Internationalism?...
The reason I decided to publish the note about the Basque IMC is that I did not see the link in the page of the Irish Indymedia. I have also to say that I added the flags just to make the note more visual, and because I was writing for the irish people, where I actually have some good friends.
I also want to clear something about nationalism and internationalism. This comment is directed mostly to Paddy. I know it is a bit complicated to explain in a few lines (and also because my bad inglish... excuse me). So i will make you a question... Then... you think that giving my support to some popular movements for national liberation, I am becaming nationalist? Does not it look more like Internationalism? Actually I was talking about two nations. And, if I write something about another opressed nation, like the palestinian, and I add the palestinian flag into the article.... I am being nationalist too? Ido not thinks so. First, visit the new Basque Indymedia Center and then give your opinion. Not about me... about the Basque IMC.
