Somebody down there must like Irish Ferries! ... for the rain came down and down, no mercy, a serious inhibitor as regards demonstrator numbers - 1,000 +, nevertheless, it did'nt dampen Michael D. Higgin's fiery denunciatory speech of Irish Ferries and their fellow-travellers in government at march's end at the Spanish Arch or Maura Harrington's (of Shell to Sea fame), collaring of Frank Fahey (of Shell to Sea notoriety) at the end of the demo : Maura asked him how the "consents" (for the pipeline) were going, "fine" says Fahey, "not up in Mayo, they're not", riposted the sharp tongued Maura, Fahey with his arse in Maura's bacon slicer and clearly discombobulated (unfortunately, the posted shot does'nt show it) trying to bollox his way out of the situation by soft-flanneling her with; "you have a strong campaign up there," "yeah", says Maura, "we fight to win, Fahey skedaddled after that - keep running, pilgrim!. Listening to Michael D. powering it out, Countess Markievicz's description of Big Jim Larkin speaking during the industrial dispute of 1913 came to mind: "Sitting there, listening to Larkin, I realised that I was in the presence of something that I never came across before, some great primeval force rather than a man, a tornado, a storm-driven wave, the rush into life of spring, and the blasting breath of autumn, all seemed to emanate from the power that spoke. It seemed as if his personality caught up, assimilated, and threw back to the vast crowd that surrounded him every motion that swayed him, every pain and joy that they had ever felt made articulate and sanctified. Only the great elemental force that is in all crowds had passed into his nature for ever".

Don't know his name, but this man works for Galway City Council and is always full of bonhomie and craic, always friendly towards street activists.

Aron, the gentlemanly and noted anti-war and Shell to Sea activist down from Erris with Maura and heading back there this evening.
I bolloxed up there alright - same as Dermot, I'm from B'sloe and should have known better; not to have blackguarded/blaggarded a fellow townie, apologies to both of you.
