What is a social centre for?

category dublin | miscellaneous | event notice author Tuesday December 06, 2005 16:46author by Seomra Spraoi - Seomra Spraoi Report this post to the editors

Get-together at Nicholas of Myra

There will be a Seomra Spraoi get-together this coming Saturday, 10 December, from 2pm at Nicholas of Myra hall. It's been called a conversation, a think-in and various other things (even a worthy alternative to Christmas shopping), but never a meeting.
There will also be food!

The discussion will hopefully focus on:
* What is Seomra Spraoi?
* Now that we have a space (in Middle Abbey St), what do we want the social centre to be?
* Is it to be expressly a political or "activist" space?
* What should its mission be?
* What ideas do you have about exciting things to do with such a space?
* Are we ready to have a "public" opening soon?
* What kind of door policy should there be?

It's happening at Myra rather than at Middle Abbey St partly for practical reasons but partly also because we wanted the discussion to be about social centres, reclaimed spaces etc IN GENERAL, not just the specific space in Abbey St.

It's not just for people who've been involved in the collective. It's for anyone who might use the social centre in some capacity or other. See you there.

* Food: food will be served during the afternoon.

So that's 2pm this Saturday.
* Nicholas of Myra is on the corner of Francis St and Carman's Hall, Dublin 8.
