Meath on Track Public meeting

Ardboyne Hotel, Navan at 8pm, Monday 21.11.05

Public meeting: 8pm, Nov 21st, Ardboyne Hotel, Navan

Meath on Track are pleased to announce a Public meeting to be held in the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan on the 21st November at 8pm.

The meeting will also see the launch of Meath on Tracks new campaign '2015 is too long - reopen Navan rail NOW'.

The meeting will be chaired by Michael Reade of LMFM. Following an initial presentation the daily commute faced by the county's citizens, a talk about the railway challenges facing the campaign by Derek Wheeler of Platform 11, and an outline of related issues by Damian Cassidy of the North South Rail Initiative, the meeting will then follow a questions and answers format.

It took less than 3 years originally to build the 26 mile Navan line by hand, with picks and shovels. Work commenced in October 1859, and was completed in August 1862.

Commute times from Navan to Dublin currently stand at over 2 hours for the same 26 mile trip by road, whilst a train would take approximately 49 minutes.

Dunboyne by 2009 is of no practical use as 9/10's of the line will be in Dublin - Navan needs rail now. Meath needs rail in Navan by 2009, not in Dunboyne.

With modern track laying technology and using the old alignment, surely the line can be reopened much earlier than 2015.
