Homeless protestor Antoinette gets flat

Homeless woman who had been sleeping rough as a protest against Dun Laoghaire County Council's inadequate housing was finally provided with suitable accomodation. (ed)

Antoinette is not living on the street anymore and is her new flat with her 3 happy children.

This, I think, is in spite of Housing Officer Liz Clifford.

Clifford’s only concern during this period was not to be seen to be giving in.

What a way for a Housing Department to be run.

If Antoinette had been offered the ground floor flat in the beginning she would have accepted it.

She could not carry her 3 small children to the 3rd floor she was originally offered.

It is disgrace that a mother of 3 would have to spend 6 weeks on the street before the Council would house her.

And the only thing Clifford has to say is “she didn’t get anywhere by protesting”

There is something drastically wrong down at that Council and the 3,000 people who signed Antoinette’s protest know it.

Clifford has no idea how she (and thereby the Council) is perceived by the people who pay her wages.

Anyway, all’s well that ends well.
