Monday September 26, 2005 23:01 by COCAD - Coalition of Communities Against Drugs
For over 20 years Dublin’s working class communities have been ravished by heroin. Each time the heroin crisis became an epidemic the local communities organised themselves to fight back. At last, a book has been written by somebody who was in the middle of this fightback. This book, “Pushers Out”, gives the affected communities side of the story. It pulls no punches and records the highs and the lows of the 20 year campaign. For over 20 years Dublin’s working class communities have been ravished by heroin. today in 2005 the situation in working class communites has got worse in your face, open dealing with voilence, youth out off their faces on cocaine have access to fire-arms willing to use them to control their turf in the trade. and the states response once it remains in inner city flats complexes and working class areas is a disgrace. while money is pumed into drug treatment centres. while project managers are well paid, in return they will pay lip service to present government about inadequate treatment services. whatever we do don't upset the status quo
children had to wait in a Dublin flats complex 20 years for play ground with swings, which eventually began in 2004-2005 residents living in areas are told by the corporation that nothing can be done about drug pushers living in the area until they are convicted and taken to court, while others involved in heroin can trot off to luxury apartments in Spain
whatever has happened to the rights of children to live in areas free of the drugs trade? or to the rights of eldery people.
where are the voices of elected politicians and councillors? who claim to represent the people of these areas and who were voted in by these people
