Shell to Sea plan mass rally

category sligo | environment | news report author Thursday September 15, 2005 22:06author by Niall Flahertyauthor email flahertyniall at eircom dot net Report this post to the editors

March to Dáil in Dublin on October 1st

Shell to Sea plan mass rally for the Rossport 5, they launched the march today outside Shell's Dublin Offices in Corrib House, on Lower Leeson Street. Family of members of the Rossport 5 were in attendance.

We appeal to everyone to tell their friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues about October 1st. Let’s make it a day for the people of Ireland to express their strength and conviction, and to make their voices heard.

October 1st: March assembles 2.30pm, Garden Of Remembrance, Parnell Sq. March to Leinster House.

The shell to sea campaign launched their October 1st rally on the steps of ‘Corrib House’, the Shell Headquarters on Leeson Street at 12 noon today, Thursday. Family members of the Rossport Five and members of the campaign were in attendance. It was terrible weather, hopefully October 1st will be better!

Máire Ní Sheighin, daughter of one of the imprisoned men, said:

“It is now over 78 days since the men went to prison. This does not constitute justice or democracy. The consortium (including Shell and Statoil) which is exploiting the Corrib gas field should immediately apply to lift the injunction which has led to the imprisonment of the five men. We are calling on everybody who believes in justice and democracy, and particularly the trade unions, community groups and political parties, to mobilise their members for October 1st, and to place the responsibility for this entire mess at the hands of the government. It is they who granted the consents to this consortium; it is time for them to start acting in the interests of ordinary people and not those of the big multinationals.”

I hate seeing myself in photos. I was hoping I could hide behind my Enda Kenny mask...

Only one article in the National Press, the PA report in the Examiner this morning. Anyone else spot anything?
