Jump To Comment: 1When this resource allegedly belonged to the Irish people, they weren't even aware the resource existed. Multi-national oil companies, whom you so despise, took the financial risk involved in exploration in Irish waters. Over two decades they drilled scores of exploration wells at a cost of billions and found nothing. Not a squeak out of you then about perhaps the Irish people bearing the cost of these exploration wells. Then, when at long last one of the exploration wells results in the discovery of, not a massive gas field, but by international standards a small gas field, you want to change the rules and have the Government take over the gas field discovered, telling the company who discovered it at great expense to get lost. Even leftists should be able to see that, if this were done, Ireland can say goodbye to any more gas discoveries since no oil/gas exploration company would ever again believe a word any Irish government said. You omit to mention that, prior to the granting of more generous exploration terms by Ray Burke, there had not been a single drop of oil or cubic foot of gas discovered in Irish waters for two decades. By the time the exploration terms were relaxed in the late 1980s, oli/gas companies were losing all interest in exploring Irish waters, so poor was the track record for making commercial discoveries. That's socialist Justin Keating's legacy, which obviously you want to return to. Your campaign is going nowhere, as I keep pointing out in the hope that you'll spare yourself further punishment and humiliation. The latest opinion poll, published in today's Irish Examiner, shows support for Fianna Fail and the PDs increasing, support for Sinn Fein stagnant, and support for all these populist left-wing parties and independents going nowhere. Its a lost cause, pack it in now.
