The Shell to Sea Revolution comes to Dundalk

category louth | anti-capitalism | news report author Friday September 02, 2005 22:18author by Eve - Shell to Sea Dundalk Report this post to the editors

Approx 15-20 people picketed a Statoil garage in Dundalk this Friday evening from 5-7pm in the second in a series of Friday evening pickets organised by Shell to Sea Dundalk .

Picketers waved banners and placards and handed out info leaflets detailing the Rossport 5 saga and calling for a boycott of Statoil on the basis of their involvement in the Corrib gas pipeline project. Many drivers beeped in support and several cars who were intending to stop for petrol at Statoil turned away when they saw the picket.

Todays picket was the second in a series of planned pickets. Shell to Sea Dundalk hope to picket Statoil every Friday in September between 5 and 7pm in the build up to the October first demo in Dublin.

We hold organising meetings in the Fane Bar Dundalk Tuesdays @ 7pm.
All Welcome.

I attended this protest for the last few weeks. They have been very effective. Motorists have apologised for considering going into statoi and have driven off. Even a garda from mayo sat in his car, thought about it, came over and spoke to us and then went on to a different garage for his fuel. If only the owners would put a template letter together that they can send to their ubermeisters!!!

The Irish Fire Safety Certificate System currently used is in a shambles. The management of the Irish Fire Services, LocalSenior Government and Civil Service are refusing to enforce the 1981 Fire Services Act therefore breaking the 1990 Building Control Act and, in the case of Wicklow Co. Co. the 2000 Development Act.
To build a high pressure pipe line in this environment is asking for trouble and the five men have a right to be concerned however the problems are more serious than most people would believe. I can show these "problems. The Dublin City Fire Brigade have stated; " 50% of the buildings in Dublin are potentially dangerous ".
