People's Park Sunday 21st August 12.00 - 7.30

The fourth annual Cork Diversity Day festival will take place on Sunday 21st August 2005 from 12.00 – 7.30 pm in Bishop Lucey Park, Grand Parade, Cork City. The event is being co-ordinated by Nasc, the Irish Immigrant Support Centre, Cork (“Nasc” is the Irish word for link). Admission is free and all are welcome to participate.

Diversity Day aims to bring together members of all of the various communities in Cork City to celebrate our cultural diversity. Taking place in a central public space, the festival atmosphere of Diversity Day aims to create a dynamic, fun environment. Awareness-raising and educational activities include information stalls and the sharing of our different cultural traditions, such as world music, traditional dance, puppetry, storytelling, poetry, art, crafts and games.

Local artists participating in Diversity Day 2005 include:
Sumu (Afro-Irish jazz-funk), The Lace Afrobeat (Congolese rumba), Harry J. and Downtown Crossing (soulful reggae), Wiggle (dancey dub), Drums of the Earth, Tribal Belly Dancing, Brazilian Capoiera, traditional Nigerian drumming and dancing, Revelation Sound System and DJ Fiasco (reggae and global grooves), Amani Acrobats and Cork Community Circus.

Nasc Projects and Information Officer
