news report
Thursday August 11, 2005 22:34 by Tommy Donnellan - Shell to Sea
All Quiet on the Statoil Front For six hours today, Shell to Sea - their ranks swelled with activists from Amnesty International, SWP, Green Party, SP and Global Women's Strike, the latter in the formidable/venerable form of Margaretta D'Arcy - mounted a protest/petition/info table on William Street and that over, joined the 90 minute SWP organised picket/blockade of the Newcastle Statoil Service Station and we closed the fucker down - at least until the arrival of some amiable Gardai.

Micheál Ó Seighin is my father. Thank you so much for the support you are all giving these men and their community. It means a lot to them when we tell them of the widespread support they are getting.
Alright Aine !, may it come, may it come, it has to come, the time we are enamoured of, when your menfolk are free, when all hearts meet, all wines flow. Unfortunately, not my words, but the prayer of that pristine voyant of the human heart, Arthur Rimbaud. Your heart-felt appreciation is very much valued.
Well done to all involved.
There's one question about the first post that has been bugging me though. Why did the poster have to refer to the event as a Shell to Sea-slash-SWP protest in the title, then acknowledge that other parties were involved in the message itself?(I'm probably nitpicking, but I need to ask.)
it must must be very tough on all of you there with these men in jail now for is it five or six weeks, it must be be even more difficult for your family than the others considering your father doesnt even live in Rossport
while one has to admire the mans obvious comittment to the cause, cant help but feeling if he was my father i would be at cloverhill 24/7 telling/pleading him to come out of prison, if he wants to campaign do so but not from prison cells,
They won't let him out until he promises _not to campaign_ (in the only effective way open to him). It's a rare sight in this day and age to see somebody keeping their principles unders such pressure.
Do you work for Shell?
are you a member of the Fine Gael party? in which case the answer to the first question is yes too!
i most certainly do not belong to either Shell or FG or FF or any other for that matter,
the important point here is that the Mr and Mrs joe publics out there, who will only have a passing interest in this at the best of times, are beginning to lose interest in this campaign, because while it was important to publicise the wrongs committed by government ministers of the day, and indeed the arrogant attitude displayed by Shell towards the Rossport community, both are now being seen as making every effort to right previous wrongs, by announcing postponements in work and the safety review which will be indepenent this time round,
the public want this to move forward now towards resolution and freedom for those in jail
you are god - all seeing, all knowing and therefore can tell us what everyone thinks
I had thought up till now that the movement was spreading and growing and more and more people were turning up to demos
but who am I to argue with someone who knows what everyone thinks
I believe I have spotted another flying pig-human folks!
Evidence please for this statement and comment on how you square it with this man's question.

Surely those avoiding answering that question would if they really wanted people to think well of a review would answer it straightforwardly?
hate to be the party pooper but www.breaking news.ie is reporting about 1,000 turned up for mass demo thats hardly a campaign growing in support and by the way thanks for the compliments of previous contributor but sorry to disappoint, just stating a point a different point of view is all it is
1000 plus people sounds good to me, if there were no people the guys in Jail would still be right, George I am with these guys 100% because I believe in freedom and real democracy not this banna one we have now. This protest at its core is about the will of the people being ignored and the refusal of the human spirit to be surpressed. The rossport 5 will win and when they do they will have done democracy in this country a great service. The government should not fuck with ordinary people, when ordinary people get this upset, things change.
"thanks for the compliments of previous contributor but sorry to disappoint, just stating a point a different point of view is all it is"
You are welcome george.
Stating a point of view including flying-pig type 'facts' unsupported by any shred of evidence whatsoever.
are you referring to eeeekkkk?
are you disputing that Micheal O Sheighin is not from Rossport?
and if you're disputing the numbers that turned up in galway, please take it up with the website that provided the figures
and i still maintain that 1,000 is well below what organisers had anticipated, very colourful though it must be said
It is a fair enough point. My dad, Micheál Ó Seighin doesn't live in Rossport. In fact he doesn't even come from Mayo. He is from Glenbrohane, in Kilmallock, Co. Limerick.
When he first took up a job as teacher in Rossport, where he taught until his retiremtent, he lived in Rossport. He lived there until the fifth year of his marriage, so brought three of this four children home to Rossport.
Vincent McGrath, another of the 5 Mayo men incarcerated, is not a landowner either, by the definitions of Shell. The pipe wouldn't have been going through his land either - although his house is only 70metres from the proposed pipeline. His first communication was when it was believed he owned the field behind his house. He doesn't. The next communication was the injunction. When he asked to meet with the parties involved in the project, they refused to meet him.
They are in jail, as previously stated, because they CAN NOT give an undertaking not to ever obsturt Shell again in the future. Shell have proven that they are willing to get ahead of themselves, and their consents, in the furtherance of their project. The State has proven that it is unwilling to believe that Shell would ever be dishonest and believes every half truth and lie its P.R. machine spills out via Andy Pyle.
With those conditions, the Rossport 5 can not possibly give this commitment.
or pigs fly!
I wonder how many dollers these shellomaniacs are wasting on sending people who don't even talk like irish onto this site
george is a blow in na na na naa na
let me break it to you george
90% of irish are blow in's to somewhere or other and you are about as convincing as a priest whispering about jaysus with a smell of drink on y'r collar
