state of emergency - car free day ; 22nd september

it is hoped that there will be a live stream (an audio transmission/ a audio and visual transission/ 2 way audio and visual stream through webcams and screens) on the day between different nodes around planet, primarly between the streets of dublin and the monks garden in venice (venue for irish partipitation in venice bienelle (art olympics)), but also with the possibility of more nodes connecting up or tuning into and participating in this experimental system

here in dublin we have set up an eco city group, we are attempting to make an 18km eco corridor for the city, we have created our first of many food production community gardens on the corridor, we do cycles around the circular eco corridor every month, we are in process of setting up a social centre for the city.

we are aware that thsi is ambitious but it is a STATE OF EMERGENCY, because without a radical change in the way this planet is being exploited, life for our species comes to an end here on our home: earth

From September 23-26, tens of thousands of anti-war and global justice activists will flock to Washington, DC for the largest mobilization since last year's RNC protests. SeptemberAction.org will serve as an information clearinghouse for that weekend.

Apologies for the delay in my reply, I have been out of the office for
the last number of days.

Since 2000, Ireland has been an enthusiastic supporter and participant
in European Car Free Day (ECFD). In previous years, Ireland's
participation in European Car Free Day was co-ordinated nationally by
Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI), with support from this Department and
the Department of Transport. However, SEI were unable to continue
their
central co-ordinating role from this year.

This Department, along with our colleagues in the Departments of
Transport and Communications, Marine and Natural Resources are in
discussions on the best way forward for ECFD/Mobility Week. These
discussions are ongoing, but due to the short span of time that was
left
to facilitate the planning of events of this type, it was decided that,
in the circumstances, financial support for this year's events would
be focused on Dublin and Cork cities (Further details of Dublin and
Cork's plans can be found at
http://www.mobilityweek-europe.org/index_en.php).

Nevertheless, it is the Minister's desire that ECFD/Mobility Week
should be supported as widely as possible given the longer term
environmental gains that can accrue from such events leading to more
sustainable mobility.

To assist in this goal, the Minister has written to every County and
City Council around the country to request that they continue to
actively promote the ideas and aims behind Mobility Week/ECFD, in order
to ensure as many towns and cities as possible across the country are
taking part, if not this year because of time/financial constraints,
then hopefully next year.

I hope this addresses your concerns.

Regards,

Eddie Forsyth
