will this issue use lots more imagery of the black bloc, whilst many of your "members" openly mocked and derided those who chose to use this tactic in Scotland for the g8?

Yes, we need Cafe settings. Francis Street was home to the Clarke Family pub which was sold in 1974 (now Silken Thomas)......Francis Street has seen much change but the history and the experience component value needs to be revived.....

By chance I passed through Francis Street tonight. It is several years since I have had a view of the City. What a change? So many apartments both sides of the Liffey and not a lot of green space. We need a voice to ensure property rights are upheld.

Given the high density and minimum space i.e. apart from the Liffey, we need environmental representation to look to the rights of people and particularly young children.

I think that the where a hell of a lot of people on the site at stirling who felt disillusioned by the actions of some folks masked up. To suggest that everything that you do whilst wearing a face cover is some way is 'blac block tactics' is stretching things a little bit.

Like everyone else and every other group/working group etc involved with dissent, constructive criticisms is needed. those who choose to mask up need to be accountable for there actions in the same way as say the trauma support group or the media reponse group, if we take the notion of genuine movement building seriously. this needs open and honest discussion.

no doubt lots of things where said in the heat of the moment on the site at sterling( working with media response i got my own fair share of shit from folks) but given the quite intense and some times overwhelming situations we found ourselves in, perhaps unsubtle comments could be viewed in this light.

ps just wondering why the word members is in inverted commas?

Duh, obviously its anti-anarchist to have an organisational model encompassing "members". Retain your individuality dude.

Is this Anarchy Night Cafe anything to do with the Anarachy Night Cafe that came out of Trinity College Dublin, and used in be in Fibber Magees I think (and maybe sides) in the 1980s?

Do you need to be over 35 to get in?

Andrew Black, Bubble Gang, The Collective, David Irving at Trinity - and now this. Is there a retroradical movement in vogue?

author by Starstruck - DGNpublication date Sun Aug 07, 2005 21:16author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I think the reason the word member was in inverted commas is that there has recently been a misperception that the black bloc is a solid and permanent grouping with membership,ie..activists in a social or meeting setting claiming to be representing, speaking on behalf of,or claiming membership of the black bloc.

In most peoples minds, the black bloc is a tactic used in a direct action situation or other similar circumstances in which it is deemd necessary to usea forcable bloc to penetrate police lines in order to acheive some objective,be it evasion of arrest, blockading or ensuring the safety of protesters involved in the action.

You can be involed in a tactic and a member at that particular time, but to claim membership of what is,essentially,a tactic in a non-action scenario is illogical and can amount to some form of fashion statement or otherwise in some peoples eyes, however well-intended.

"Duh, obviously its anti-anarchist to have an organisational model encompassing "members". Retain your individuality dude."

And all the millions of people that have been members of anarchist organisations in the last 150 years weren't real anarchists.

I suspect you might be a person who adopts the tabloid method of rational enquiry. Learning about the world in 3 easy steps:
* Tabloid media says something
* Reality fails to match this description
* Researcher concludes that this portion of reality isn't *real* reality and dismisses it.

(It' quite possible that you were joking and making this same point, but humour on the internet is a tricky critter to spot).

Many of the frequent posters here are IT workers of one sort or another who are stuck in some office or behind the desk of an internet cafe. So posting here is an alternative to bending paper clips or doing the crossword in those boring bits of work. Their bosses would probably not smile at them getting up from behind their desks and heading out onto the streets to organise the proletariat or whatever. This is also why some people use the same false name all the time.

Most of the good stuff on the net is the invention of similar bored IT workers as is most of the good content. The internet - it is better than work.

Humour on the net is difficult to see. I thought the 'retain your individuality dude' part was tongue in cheek enough to make most alarm bells scream to the sound of sarcasm. Oh well, perhaps we should use a < joke > insert joke or < sarc > insert sarcasm html style coding system.

Waste of your time - the secret police keep an eye on us as it is and I'm sure they read indymedia.ie and this thread. (hi boys). Big deal - that's the nature of capital and the state - 'freedom' to express opinons only exists for those who agree and those who the secret police judge harmless. There may be an unmarked car parked across the street with a couple of gentlemen inside scribbling in their notebooks - give them a wave on your way in.

And whatever the papers (and that useful idiot Tariq Ali) might tell you even a 3 year old could work out that relations between a load of religous nuts who want to impose a religous state and between anarchism which wants to abolish all states and disestablish all religions could not be anything but hostile. Those with a greater interest on Islam and anarchism in general can check out http://www.anarkismo.net/newswire.php?story_id=977

'No Gods No Masters' is a slogan that would go down equally badly with bin Laden and his fellow oil millonare George W Bush.
