In a scene straight out of East Germany's Stasi playbook, a grandmother got a visit from two plainclothes police officers ? not for committing a crime, but for daring to criticise Labour councillors online.

Left-wing activists in Britain are less likely to work with their political opponents and more likely to think that those who think differently have been misled, a study has found. Leftists are intolerant? Who knew.

Toby Blair's Institute for Global Change has published a report that apparently tells Ed Miliband his Net Zero plans are unrealistic. But look closer and you find the same Green Blob pushing the same agenda, says Ben Pile.

Rossport Campaign Raised in Europe

category international | anti-capitalism | news report author Tuesday July 05, 2005 18:00author by EU Observer Report this post to the editors

Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún raised the issue of the detention of the Rossport Five in the European Parliament yesterday.

Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún slammed 'a compliant Fianna Fáil/PD Government' for handing over Ireland's natural resources and condemned the imprisonment of five Mayo farmers in the European Parliamenrt yesterday.

Is mian liom aird na parlaiminte seo a dhíriú ar cheist leanúnach in Éirinn.
An tseachtain seo caite caitheadh i bpríosún cúigear feirmeoir toisc go raibh siad chomh móruchtúil sin agus seasamh in aghaidh leagadh píopaí gáis a d'fhéadfadh a bheith contúirteach, trína gcuid talún.
The five men were sent to prison because they refused to give assurances that they would not obstruct work on their lands. I want to take this opportunity to condemn this decision in the strongest possible terms. These men have legitimate concerns regarding the threat to safety that this pipeline may pose.
The Shell Oil led multi-national consortium including Marathon and the Norwegian Stat-Oil intend to place a pipeline across residential lands and beside homes, without an independent safety audit being carried out.
Once again we have witnessed multi-national companies with no regard for local communities or the environment, and a compliant Fianna Fail/PD Government which has allowed the national resource of gas at Corrib to be given away, with no apparent gain for Ireland, and severe environmental hazards to local communities.
Furthermore, it has not been proven this pipeline has not been shown to comply with the Seveso Directive on the conditions under which dangerous materials are transported.
Gríosaím An tAontas Eorpach chun an cás seo a scrúdú a thuilleadh.´

Sf are hypocrits. When the gas reserves were sold off to Shell in the first place they didn't utter one word of criticism. SF do not support the nationalisation of the huge multi nationals and in fact when in power in councils and in the Assembly they implemented the same neo liberal agenda of FF/PD/FG/Labour. SF are also bankrolled by multi nationals and capitalists in the states

SF are cynically using this issue in a hope to take a seat in Mayo, they couldn't care less about the people of Rossport or shifting the country's resourse into the ownership of working people.
