Bush on Africa : his pre-G8 speech.

category international | arts and media | other press author Thursday June 30, 2005 21:21author by @ Report this post to the editors

"is it getting better? or is it just the same?"

"this is a very modest step forward which is being spun as a colossal leap"
P. Watt of Action Aid
"President Bush's pledge today will mean an extra nine hundred million dollars each year for Africa and this is a welcome first step. Hoewver it is widely calculated that $25 billion is needed annually for Africa so we hope the announcement today is just the beginning of a much bigger US commitment to fighting poverty." - Oxfam

the USA will double its aid to Africa in the next five years to those states which are "reforming" on the basis of trade and support the "war on malaria".
It will not cancel debt, it will not cancel US drug patents, it will not increase US corporation tax donations on african mining or commidities.

Let me put it this way, you are on the street, because your home was lost due to restructuring or divorce or something like that, and you've got used to it, you now sit there with your dog on a rope, and the nice man who put you there, who reformed your former workplace or perhaps seduced your former wife, says
"i will give you fifty rather than twenty pence (or cents) if you let me shag your dog".

The G8 is not about "8 men". And only a moron would think to distort a decades work in understanding poverty and exploitation by being so facile. the G8 is about pre-arranged agreements which for the sake of cohesion are offered in a joint manner on an annual basis. No-one ought think it is as simple as "changing the minds of eight men".

Africa has been robbed, raped and pillaged in every political guise that imperialism and exploitation can wear.

You can not offer them aid based on free trade, for this is precious little left for them to sell.

But this is not about trade, it is not about liberty, it is not about wealth.

If you want to make a difference, then make "power" history. If you want to make a difference, then "get poor".

Africa needs medicine that it is capable of making, but the profits of those who hold the patents, are the pension funds of those who have lived twice the life expectancy of an average African in the USA and the EU.

If Africa has drugs tomorrow for aids, Irish pensioners have less money in their nest-egg.

If Africa is paid a fair price for its agricultural produce tomorrow, Ireland finds its dinner and tea and breakfast less exotic, less tasty & to be truthful, a bit more "poor" in taste.

If Africa is to have peace tomorrow, then the USA and Europe and Russia will have stopped selling it weapons more than a decade ago.

If Africa is to have development tomorrow, it means a lot more than states which number a mere few thousand of beurocrats in countries that count millions of people, reforming.

If African Poverty is to End
then Europe and the USA are less Rich.

BASTA = DINERO GRATIS.
are you going to let that man shag your dog?
are you going to think "you know my first gold disc was cool, but by the time I got my fifth I couldn't get a better seat at the swimming pool".
are you going to think, "I can be richer than any of my ancestors ever were, and they can be poorer than ever they were, and a pop concert will end it".

the Bush Speech-
note how it is reported first in "Business news" then afterwards it gets the moronic treatment.
