Just Books Benefit Gig

category antrim | arts and media | event notice author Tuesday June 14, 2005 02:16author by Jason Brannigan - Just Books Collectiveauthor email jst_books at yahoo dot co dot ukauthor address PO Box 505, Belfast, BT12 6BQ Report this post to the editors

8pm Upstairs Kelly's Cellars, Belfast

Anarcho-folk collective from the USA Riot Folk with local support from Tony Maguire and Pol MacAdaim. Doors open 8.00pm.
£5.00 admission.

American anarcho-folk musicians collective 'Riot Folk' are playing with local support from Tony Maguire and Pol MacAdaim as a fundraiser to reopen Belfast's anarchist bookshop and social centre 'Just Books'.

You can listen to Riot Folk's tunes on their website at http://www.riotfolk.org

Just Books was opened by the Belfast Anarchist Collective back in June 1978. More than just a bookshop, the premises included a cafe and print workshop and provided a focal point for many activities. Just Books closed its doors in June 1994 proclaiming that “16 years of providing an invaluable service to the community and being a focus for social change and revolutionary ideas is something to celebrate.”

We feel the time is right to reopen Just Books – again we want to make Just Books more than just a bookshop. We envisage a solidarity centre in Belfast that incorporates accessible resources and information for workers in struggle - in a premises providing a multi-lingual resource library, a bookshop, meeting space, internet access and a coffee shop. Ideally we would also like to include a print workshop and a projector for showing films. These are possibilities - we are asking for your support in order to achieve them.

Come along to the gig, enjoy the music and craic, help Just Books and have a drink and recharge before heading off to the G8 protests in Gleneagles or before getting stuck in to some local community and workplace organising.

See you there;

Jason
