The Latvian parliament on Thursday (2 June) overwhelmingly ratified the European Constitution, following Brussels' appeal for continuing the ratification process, despite the French and Dutch No.
The Baltic country's 100-member parliament adopted the document with 71 votes in favour, 5 against and 6 abstentions, according to Reuters.
"With our vote I would like to say that we believe in Europe", Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks told the press agency.
"We would like Europe to go forward and not backwards", he added.
