event notice
Friday May 27, 2005 02:04 by saoririseoir - Near FM majorityworld at nearfm dot ie North-Side Civic Centre, Bunratty Road, Coolock, Dublin 17 00353-1-8671016
Sun 5:30-6pm, repeated Monday 11:30-1pm. Near FM 101.6 in Dublin, and nearfm.ie for broadband.
A Speaking Gig with celebrated U.S. independant media journalist Amy Goodman for pit-stop ploughshare, on January 29th 2005 in Dublin.
If you missed it, this could be your chance to get the hour-long edited version, to be broadcast during 'Global solidarity', a weekly programme on community station North-east Access Radio: powered by imagination, and mostly, by volunteers. On January 29th, 2005, Amy Goodman did a speech gig at the ATGWU Hall, Abbey Street in Dublin. It was held in support of the 5 pit-stop ploughshare defendents for their action at Shannon Airport in February 2003.
She is the most celebrated journalist in the US non-mainstream (independent) media, and hosts a daily show called 'Democracy Now' which goes out on various alternative networks throughout the world.
If you missed the gig in January, you might have a chance to hear an hour-long edited version - the highlights, so to speak; including questions from the floor.
The piece will be broadcast on community radio, Near FM on 101.6 for those within reach of its signal in Dublin, on 'Global Solidarity' between 5-6:30pm on Sunday evening, and repeated on Monday morning between 11:30am-1pm.
Apparently, for those with broadband, the live-stream can be heard at nearfm.ie if winamp is used, but the normal internet live streaming doesn't seem to work.
In this presentation, Amy highlights US media cover-upsin relation to the war on Iraq, Haiti and East Timor, giving her account of harsh eperiences when she went 'to where the silence is' in search of the truth.
the event was presented by Ciaron O'Reilly (Dublin Catholic Worker and pit-stop defendent), and chaired by Vincent Browne.
