The G8, the meeting of the heads of the 8 most economically powerful
countries on the planet, bar China and India, takes place this July in
Scotland. The annual get together will be held at Gleneagles on July 6th.
This rural setting is in keeping with the decision taken after the G8
summit in Genoa in 2001 not to host the meeting in a urban setting again.
Gleneagles is equidistant from Glasgow and Edinburgh about 40 miles North.

There are many demonstrations and actions planned for the week of 6th July
to coincide with the summit. Dissent Ireland in which Gluaiseacht has been
participating have organised a number of busses to go to Scotland. In
addition to this the Belfast Grassroots against the G8 group are organisng
an Irish Bario (village) in the main activist campsite in Scotland. This
would be the destination of the busses. Food will be provided at the Irish
bario by the Bitchin Kitchin cooking collective which was formed at the
recent EYFA wintermeeting in Co. Clare. The actions planned until now in
Scotland are:

Sat July 2nd - Make Poverty Histoty demo in Glasgow.
Mon July 4th - Blockade of Faslane Nuclear Submarine Base
Tue July 5th - Action at Asylum seeker Detention Centre
Wed July 6th - Shut down the G8 Action
Fri July 8th - Day of action on Climate Change

For more information on actions and background see the main Dissent
Website:

http://www.dissent.org.uk
http://www.trapese.org

Dissent Ireland are running two types of busses (and more should we need
to) to these ations. One will be a 10 day trip leaving on the 1st of July
and returning ten days later on the 10th. A Shorter trip will leave on the
5th of July to get people there for the July 6th Day of action to shut down
the summit and return to Ireland on the 7th.

Busses will be leaving from Cork, Galway, Limerick, Dublin and wherever
numbers are sufficent. Please get in touch with the contact nearest to
you to arrange a place on the bus or to ask any questions.

Ed Manning - Kilkenny 086 3716422
Aron Baker - Westmeath 087 2895036
Rob Black - Cork 086 0536647
Tracey Ryan - Limerick 087 6543425
Delacey Ahearne - Waterford 086 1039345
Keith Corcoran - Donegal/North West 087 9213200
Brian Whelan - Dublin 087 7412431

The cost per person for a place on a bus will be around 100 euro for 10
days and 80 euros for 3 days. Deposits now being taken.
Accomodation in Scotland will be on a campsite.

If you want to get involved in organising and publisising the events in
your areas email [email protected] for more info. Information
about meetings/actions will be posted on

http://www.dissentireland.org

See you on the bus!
