Street Activity in Galway

Support Palestinian Rights

Palestinian and Egyptian activists from the Irish Centre for Human Rights joined forces with Irish activists in Shop Street, Galway city.

The activists set up an information table and handed out leaflets regarding Caterpillar Inc 's lamentable human rights record in Palestine. This activity will be an ongoing weekly event.

Caterpillar bulldozers are criminal tools which are used to destroy lives and culture in Palestine. In the course of Professor Edward
Said's last major public address in June 2003, he called for a boycott of Caterpillar bulldozers, saying 'these sixty tonne behemoths have no other function besides destroying Palestinian homes and infrastructure'.

Relevant to this is the motion put before Galway City Council by Labour Councillor, Billy Cameron and Green Party Councillor, Niall O'Brollachain, to make Galway City the world's first Caterpillar-Free Zone.
Also, there is strong support in Galway University, particularly from the Islamic students in the Human Rights Centre, to grant an honorary degree to Israeli dissident Mordechai Vanunu.

Oh yeah, we are aware of the images of present day Ireland/Sodom and Begorrah behind us; "High Society, Adult Shop", "Cream Parlour Bordello," 'n suchlike Mammon ads - "Buon Appetito" if that is your desire. What we spiritually hunger for is the Zionist's permanently out of bleeding Palestine and imperial Amerika/Brittania, forever and ever, out of the butcher's field of Iraq. Is that too much to hope for?. Oh yeah, whimper, whimper, I know, we are asking too much.

"Said's last major public address in June 2003, he called for a boycott of Caterpillar bulldozers, saying 'these sixty tonne behemoths have no other function besides destroying Palestinian homes and infrastructure'.

Anybody care to make a couple wagers?

First bet:
I give $10 (or EU) for every Cat bulldozer being used for the demolition of Palestinian homes and infrastructure and you, who believe the above statement give me $10 (or EU) for every Cat dozer the Israelis posses that is being used for ordinary construction and farming purposes. Do you doubt who is going to have to dip into their bank account to pay offf?

Second bet:
I give you $10 (or EU) for every 60 ton Cat dozer the Israelis possess and you give me $10 (or EU) for every Cat dozer there of lesser weight. Might I humbly suggest that before taking up this wager you first look at Cat's product line (model specs) and find out a little about what are the most popular models in terms of number of sales. Or you could just ask yourself whether you haven't seen typical large Cat dozers loaded onto "flatbeds" being moved around in your own country >

Mike,

the reference to sixty tons is not stricylt true obviously and in relation to Caterpillar, Amnesty International and Human Rights watch , Jews for Justice in Palestine etc etc have all caled for Caterpillar to stop supply bulldozers to the IDF for military purposes, the only Israeli bulldozers in Palestinian lands are military vechiles used for house demolitions etc.

Do you work for caterpillare or what but then again you bets of $ indicates where you are coming from

It's good to expose those who are collaborating, for the sake of profit, in the abuse of human rights of Palestinians.

A Caterpillar D9 bulldozer crushed Rachel Corrie to death on March 16, 2003. Now her parents have filed a lawsuit against Illinois-based Caterpillar Inc charging the Company with responsibility for the human rights abuses in Palestine.

They have also filed a tort claim in Israel against the State of Israel, the Israeli Defence Ministry and the IDF for their role in the death of their daughter

Caterpillar D9s have also destroyed homes and killed people in Jenin, Nablus and Rafah. Moshe Nessin was one of those who used the D9 in Jenin. "I didn't see, with my own eyes, people dying under the blade of the D-9." he wrote, "and I didn't see house falling down on live people. But if there were any, I wouldn't care at all. I am sure people died inside these houses, but it was difficult to see, there was lots of dust everywhere, and we worked a lot at night. I found joy with every house that came down, because I knew they didn't mind dying, but they cared for their homes. If you knocked down a house, you buried 40 or 50
people for generations. If I am sorry for anything, it is for not tearing the whole camp down."

Good to hear too of some of UCG's students being aware of, and supporting, "the prisoner of Israel", Mordechai Vanunu.

In his last major public address, this is what Prof. Edward Said said, in the presence of Rachel Corrie's parents and sister, about Caterpillar Inc at the annual meeting of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in Washington DC, shortly before he died of leukaemia on September 25, 2003 : The Caterpillar that deliberately killed Rachel Corrie was not an ordinary bulldozer, but a 60 ton behemoth, specially designed by Caterpillar, there's a project right there to demonstrate and to prevent as many as these Caterpillars, these special house demolishing Caterpillars from ever getting there, a mass action that as Americans we can do, they are specially designed to destroy homes, they have no other purpose. (transcripted from the democracynow.org CD : Professor Edward Said, Scholar, Activist, Palestinian 1935-2003).

Israelis, revel against the corruption of your terrorist government, recover the humanity that is being torn off from you, and offer your hands to Palestinians to get them out of the hole where you’ve thrown them into, help those who are still alive. Give them freedom, and recover the most precious treasure you, like any other wo/man, should have: Humanity.
