Left-wing activists in Britain are less likely to work with their political opponents and more likely to think that those who think differently have been misled, a study has found. Leftists are intolerant? Who knew.

'Modern Life and How to Escape It' is a series of screening events bringing together several documentary films from around the World. Some of these award-winning films have not been screened before in Northern Ireland, and are a must-see for anyone interested in the effects of modernity on our lives, or those wanting to escape it. The screenings have been organized by Queen’s Film students and proceeds will be donated to the Anti Racism Network. Thank you to the makers of these films, who have allowed their work to be screened free of charge, and to the Queen's Film Theatre and the Queen's Students Union for the use of their facilities for this event. Entry to all screenings is 'by donation'. The suggested donation is £2

CARPATIA

Thurs May 19th @ 4pm in the Queen's Film Theatre (25 on Map) : CARPATIA

Carpatia takes you on a poetic journey of time through the rural mountainous regions of Europe. It starts out east of Vienna, and continues to Slovakia, Poland, the Ukraine and Romania, stopping in places and regions that not only geographically lay 'just outside of Europe'. They may seem completely foreign to us, but nonetheless allow us to connect with common cultural and historical roots.
We visit farmers, shepherds and magicians, rafters, gold-diggers and gypsies. People who appear to be living the life of past centuries tell about their daily life. Fascinating landscape photography, surprising details and a subtle soundtrack give this film a magical flavour. Carpatia is a portrait of many different people who have one thing in common: an uncertain future as their countries prepare to join the European Union. http://www.carpatia.info/
